I'm not far from you and I hound for nothing in central Tx. On occasion I may go to east TX for pet wood or SW Texas for plume agates. Other than that, I do all my hounding (when I'm at home in TX rather than summering in CO) online, particularly with a very few friends. I have a pretty diverse collection of slabs that I've cut and am always looking to find something different. As you already know, hounding in central TX is pretty much futile unless you just want to get out and aren't terribly particular about what you may or may not find). If I want to get skunked, I'd rather go fishing!

tons (literally) of georgetown flint on the roadway abutments. If you are a knapper it is fine quality.

Welcome aboard.

Kerrville here. I love the George West area too. Great agate and pet wood, including palm. Also like the Rio Grande gravels and SW Texas for plume etc. Locally, we're pretty much all flint and fossils...Mel

One of the best places to go hounding in Texas is at riverbendlapidary! Hmmm, I just realized that could be construed as a plug for JR, and it is, but not meant to be, if that makes any sense. Damn this PC crap! Anyway, JR really has some good stuff and he isn't too far from the Austin area.

Robstown, just outside of Corpus Christi. I like the backroads around George West/Three Rivers and the backroads near the Rio Grande from north of Laredo to Falcon Lake (daylight only).

Lyons....close to Bryan/College Station. Tons of pet wood. The place I get my pet wood has not been worked in a long time so there will be lots of good stuff. Some small and some medium pieces and if you are real lucky, a large piece.
