Oh my gosh. Now I know I need to get some sleep. I thought it said "fornication question." ![:o](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/shocked.png) I don't know what that stone is but it's really pretty. I hope it takes a good polish. The finished pieces will be beautiful. Lori

That sure looks like fortification to me. My bet would be that the banding entirely surrounds that vug on all sides. -Don

I hope they post a pic of the finished stone. I love the "eye" in it. Slabs like that are so neat.

Kev, Fortification Agate - Agate with a pattern resembling a medieval fortress (i.e. imaginary moat and castle walls can be perceived). So, yes these are fortification bands.
But, I think this is an agate nodule that has been incorporated into this piece of chert. I guess I am saying that these bands did not form inside the chert.
Does this make sense?

Lori! You crack me up!
If Kev decides to "name that rock" My choice will be "That Effing Rock". (for fortification...not fornication ;D) But Lori will get credit as 1/2 the team!)

that vug is a good 1/2 deep into this peice..maybe i oughta get out the good blade and cut a few thin slices...ya makes sense daniel...just wasnt sure if it was considered fortification...cause i only seen fortification bands associated with agates.
it has quite a bit of pits in it...and other vugs about the peice...not sure if many nice peices could be made from it.
stefan...what daniel said makes sense...but it makes this material even more confusing for me...is it an agate?..is agate inside of chert?...if it is agate inside of chert...i havent found many of these peices that didnt have both materials together.
fixing to post a pic in photo secton...has both together also...im just gonna cut and polish it..hahahahaa ;D...aint going to try and figure out nature ;D

Well, like we discussed in another thread sex sells. Now if we want to get a lot of views on a new thread we know what to put in the title. ![:)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/smiley.png) Lori

This gives me the opportunity to ask a question I have been wondering about, what if he filled the vug with clear resin? Would the resin and the surrounding rock polish the same?
Sorry if this is a stupid question but I have seen so many that would be so very cool if they could be preserved and polished.
If stupid my only excuse is a 103 temp. that just won't come down.
