That's wild! On specimen slabs, I love the 'cutout' effect. Remember the rock I got that I thought was a turkey tail? this one: It's got the cutouts too, and everyone said it was a stalagtite... does that mean that OJ are stalagtites sliced up out of a cave? They have the round orbs with eyes, and sometimes have fracture lines that seem to follow stalagtite needles.

That cab is Kabambi, but there is a whole deposit of the stuff just down the shore form the OJ mine. It is the name of a river, and there are several deposits around the mouth and a ways up the river.
These are orbs, and however they formed, it was not stalactites. Your cave onyx's pattern is not orbs, but cross section of long stalactite.

Daniel, I'd like to see a fast-motion video of how that specimen was formed. Interesting.

I'm with you Randy. I don't 'do' specimens, but that would have to stay 'as is'.

Well since we're showing slabs off here's my OJ that I haven't figured out what to do with yet. It's about 11" x 7 1/2"

Beautiful slab, Daniel.
I can see right where to put the chisel to bust it up for tumbling...

Daniel, I'll bet you can come up with some ideas!!! Ideas for your slab? The snowy white druze needs to be used in pendants somehow. Other sections would make nice box tops. Plenty of trimmings for other cabs.

^^ numerous people wincing Yes, it was an automatic response. I would cut some cabs, though.
