Excellent pieces, James. It's pretty impressive that you can still see the coral structure.

That is a small pebble that was heavily weathered w/that coating you have experienced. The skin got tumbled off and it was graded to be a good one for a heat treatment because it had a dull yellow where the brick red is. Heat turned the dirty yellow to brick red.Turned the black a bit blacker.Turned the white center to a bit blue.I got more places to go over a 30 mile stretch of river.I will never find all the variations.YEA Thanks for compliment i think.:>
I am going to use the optionl 'edit reason' option below as a test Scott.
Dear wife likes that one.

Your corals are unlike anything I have seen! And the color range is . . . incredible! Fossils that take a shine, don't get much better than that.

I have been collecting silicified coral for years riverrock. They can be 1 inch or 5 feet accross.Probably 10 years ago i did a overnite kayak trip on a different river and collected a few corals on the way down.I tried taking various motor boats back up to the site and never made it w/hitting bottom or running out of sun light. It is very desolate.I bought a special rig that allowed it to happen early this year.I brought back 4-500 pounds of this type. The only place i can find these. After tumbling and sawing for months i now know what to collect. But it is still not that simple because of the knarly skin.Trying to say i have a lot to learn about collecting these particular corals.I have some interest and told some folks to wait till i get it together.I collect in the summer when the Florida rivers are low(if they get low!).I will post a link of the trip-almost 3 hours upstream on the Suwanee River. www.flickr.com/photos/67205364@N06/sets/72157632508448882/
