Not funny... the woman wanted to know where it came from because it was so unusual for it's location.
Most rocks that rockhounds collect are the same way, unusual for it's location (because if they are nice rocks, they are usually picked clean). I just commented that it was not a particularly interesting looking rock. But it's still exciting to find a unique rock anywhere.
Did not want you to get discouraged posting, it was an interesting story. I just commented on the rock itself.

I took down what I could. Thanks for your input. Guess there was nothing to learn about it. I have been told you guys were helpful and really nice. I will try again sometime. Sadly I even pointed her over here to touch base with you all, for a chat and advice... Guess I am glad she didn't look.

Well, I'm surprised more people didn't encourage you... but you are talking about rock collectors/hounds who've been at it all over the world, and have unbelievable rock prizes in their collections... so they're a bit picky I guess:).
I like reading interesting stories about rocks!! And also... you know, that rock is sort of pinkish... it may well be really interesting inside. The photo posted really wasn't clear enough to tell what it might be even. But pink rocks are always in demand:).

Sorry Helens, stuff like this really sorta takes the fun outta trying to help a friend. I had my own opinion about the rock in question. But was hoping to hear something other than "My friend took some good drugs" or..... /\ what is above. QUOTE: Posted by foxtail Jun 5, 2013 at 7:42pm I suspect that woman has done too many drugs to believe the crap she believes. I have not lost faith in this site.... just really discouraged with the lack of respect and camaraderie I have found here on this thread.

Well heck... the road to hell is paved with good intentions. I was only commenting because I noticed you didn't get many comments, and didn't want you to feel ignored.
The rock wasn't particularly interesting looking, the thread was sort of interesting, and I certainly didn't intend to insult you... or... well, I'd have insulted you, I'm real good at it:). All I was trying to say was that you shouldn't feel slighted. It does take a little time to get to know people, but you will if you keep trying.

To be perfectly honest, anyone who believes that rocks hold magical powers deserves all of the ridicule people can provide. Most rock people search for facts, not hokum.

While I would have to agree with you foxtail; please allow me to pull your leg. A couple rocks can and do have SOME powers and it is said any technology sufficently advanced is indistinguishable from magic. Marble, onyx, travertine, aragonite, calcite will cure heartburn. Halite makes food taste better. Lepidolite might very well work on bipolar disease. so, to the low information mind, these are magical powers. Truth be told we are all happier because of our rocks. Ain't that magic!?!?

Sorry, Jim. The OP was offended and dist-appeared-ed. Took his posts and ran.
The image was so small all I saw was granite. Granite from New Hampshire "the granite state", well... can you see all the hubbub??

Looking at the snarky replies here..... It is hard to be an outsider in a clique. He that took his posts and ran is a she.... She is me. It looked like opalized wood to me.... BUT you guys were so busy telling me that my friend with the rock in question was off on drugs and that the rock was not interesting, that you never answered my question. Ya know.... my friend (A regular here)referred me here, and my friend thinks very highly of some of you. I have dealt with several people here, and they have been the ultimate in professional and really nice.... I just can't believe the slap in the face you folks are administering, and how badly you have hurt my feelings. I sincerely hope you are having fun. I will just leave the site, if this is the welcome you give to people that try to help others.....Thanks.
Excuse the heck outta me.

Would you mind reposting the picture(s)? I would like to see the rock. And don't worry about the haters on here. They're all old and on Death's doorstep anyway.

hahaha Geoff. Today I feel like I have passed through that door so you are pretty much correct. Well, except for hating. Takes too much effort. I would like to see the rock also. Some people on here have the best rocks on the planet and think other rocks are not worthy of a little look. They should just p-ss off and leave us commoners alone. Jim

It is what you enjoy.I am sure there are rocks that would smoke all rocks on this forum. There are people that collect clays and soils and it floats their boat just fine.I am into clays. Not for their attractive color but for their consistency, makeup, color, texture, location, creation etc.Theses said clays help find various colored silicifications too.And i use them in my business.

Thanks Geoff v2.0, wampidy, and jamesp. I copied the pics and linked them back to facebook... So those that cared could hop back there, and see them better. I don't have the real drive to go find them and put them back up here. It looks like she has moved past it too. And...lol.... guess my feelings are a bit raw still, although I appreciate the genuinely friendly approach you guys have taken. Far as I could tell, it looked like a nice big piece of pinkish limbcast petrified wood.... She is a Reiki healer.... and stones have energy.... take that or leave it.... some believe in Ghosts and some do not... and so on...She felt that this one had some bad energy, and because it was where it was.... in the middle of New Hampshire, in the middle of a pinewood forest.... It didn't seem to belong where it was found. She is a rock lover, and uses them in her work. It made her feel bad.... as in bad energy. I simply tried to help her ID the stupid rock. The unfortunate part was, that I gave all the folks that were in that thread the link to this thread....only to have the reactions that I got here. It never started out as a big deal.... I truly hope that my none of other friends from that thread, came here to see the ridicule. I am not going to spend the energy to go find that thread, and repost all of that... But If I find another that I need help with, I know who I will go to... and those who I will avoid. Thanks again. I am a little past rookie.... www.etsy.com/shop/mnblarneystone?view_type=list

Checked out your store and a noob you are not. lol You have some awesome pieces. I could not find the stone in question but I would like to mention that someone on here makes granite jewelry. I can not remember who or where but it is beautiful. There is pink granite here in Wyoming that is gorgeous and maybe I will make some cabs from it just for the snarky ones if I can find a piece that has not weathered and crumbling. Most of it that is not weathered is mountain sized and will not fit into my saw. Jim
