Hello Everyone, I am a keen rockhound from Southern Victoria in Australia. I have recently brought a vibratory tumbler from a retiring club member and know little about it as it has no instructions with it. I usually carve stone but would like to tumble some of my smaller finds so here I am......ready to learn.

Many of us (including myself) use vibratory tumblers, for me the vibe tumbler is the only way to go. Welcome to the forums, we can answer any questions that you have about tumbling

Yippee finally some fresh blood in the carving-sector. Besides your exploits in tumbling, we would love to see some of your work. Welcome to the forum.

Thanks for the welcome. I have spent a few hours browsing the forums and have come up with the notion that I need a barrel tumbler to begin the process then switch to the vib..am I right? Stones will be all 6-8 Mohs I am pretty sure. And many not river tumbled first as they come from quarries or are volcanic origin ( I live on the side of a volcano) ..extinct thank goodness!

Welcome to the forum. You can polish your carvings in the vibe as well. If you want rounded pebbles then yes you will need a rotary for first step or two. No matter what vibe if it is made for rock keep it full and damp not wet.

Welcome to the forum. I'm in Utah. I've heard some cool things about agates from AU. I can't wait for you to post some pictures.

I love Australia. The land where tortoises live in water and have necks like a snake! Welcome to the group!

Hi Chookie,
I'm a newbie too but I have some experience with tumblers. Before recommending one I'd have to ask what you intend to do with the "bits" you plan to tumble.

Hi KK, thanks for your comment. I do have more FA images and will post some when I figure out how. Have any suggestions on where I can find a posting tutorial?
