Ok,finally got some pics of the rock I was talking about..My buddy in PA has it..Any ID would be useful thank you... Here are his quotes first: " Quote...Hey Foss.... I found a "rock" here in PA. about 10 or 12 years ago. About the size of an egg. Very heavy and looks like a brain. I had it tested because at first a lot of people told me it was a non-magnetic meteorite. I ground and polished a small spot on it too to show the metallic surface. Anyway the University lab informed me that it is laminated pyrite . It is a really cool rock and I haven't seen any other examples that look like this one. I was told that it was made by volcanic action. Really wild cause no one around here even thinks about volcanos ever being here in PA. I found it laying right on top of the ground in a corn field near home while looking for arrowheads. Send me your mailing address... I'll send it to you to check out.... I want to sell it , but don't have any idea what it is worth . Between you and your rockhound friends, you guys should be able to figure out what it is worth. A VERY unusual find !"Quote... Also''Quote"I might add, for its size ,it is very heavy...12ozs. and it is completely covered with rosette crystallization..one rosette over another ."Quote

get a specific gravity. This will define precisely what "very heavy" means.
Does dude have a geiger counter?

Hey Mike, I'm betting it's a pyrite ball. Have your friend look up the Blue Ball quarry, in Lancaster County, PA. The balls have been found in the coal mining areas of PA.

I think Don's right... it's a pyrite ball. I looked them up and there's a few that look a lot like yours:).

Hey Mike, pyrite balls that size are going for $10.00 - $15.00 on ebay. The ones I saw were coming from China.

Down in South Alabama, you can find marcasite balls and other odd shape concretions ! Once you remove them from the clay they start breaking down and will turn to a corosive powder because of the high content of pyrite. Some folks sell these as coprolite specimens. they have to be stored in a dry, moisture resistant container or seal the marcasite. I have found some really odd shapes. I think the location is near Livingston, Alabama on the Tom Bigby River.
