If anyone remembers that saw I was talking about a month ago, we just bought it today! A 24" Frantom, raytech blue blazer blade, 3/4 hp motor (might be underpowered, but we'll see). As the seller said it needs TLC, but I couldn't pass it up for the price...
A grand total of $200. No joke.
Ok, well the server doesn't want to let me upload the crappy cellphone photo I just took, so pics will have to wait until tomorrow along with a more detailed description of the issues it has. Too tired right now.
But I also picked up a 6" raytech trim saw in almost new condition for $100.
;D I haz a happy!

A friend bought an 18" Frantom years ago. He was eying my HP 24 and I considered making a trade until I saw it. It was a monstrously huge saw. I was interested in garage space at the time. I can't imagine what the Frantom 24 looks like. I bet it was fun to move. $200? Were you wearing a ski mask or nylon stocking over your face?

I didn't even have to negotiate that price! The guy said he wanted it gone. I'll give you guys the ordeal of getting it home later. Going on a family trip to Bear mtn now.

So here's how it got home. Got the dimensions of the saw (30" x 52") from the seller. I tried to rent a truck with a lift gate, but had to settle for a ramp instead. The website says the ramp is 2' 4" wide (28"). Went and found two dollies that were 18" x 30" or something like that with the wheels 26" apart on the long dimension. Nailed down some scrap wood to the dollies to make them more like 32" long. I figured I could get the saw onto the two dollies and just wheel it up the ramp with the dollies sideways.
Fat f-ing chance.
After renting the truck and driving to the guy's house in the pouring rain, I find out that the dollies don't fit up the ramp sideways! That ramp was a bit narrower than they said! I back the truck up to the garage and by some miracle he and I heave this behemoth up into the back of the truck. No idea how we managed that one! Strap it down, pay the man and we're on our way. Except getting it off on the other end!
Once we pull into our driveway my wife and I look at the saw, then at each other, then back at the saw. NOW wtf do we do?! The two of us aren't strong enough to get it off they way it went on, and the ramp didn't get any wider. So my wife comes up with the idea to lay the saw on its side on the dolly which can then go down the ramp the other way. She's the smart one...and the good looking one!
So we finally got it into the garage without further incident. No injuries either, just my carpal tunnel acting up.
I'll try to get some pics up later.

30x52 is the size of the 24" saws at class.
You made a true score. Like Randy said, the blade is worth more than $200.
So, good buddy. Where do you live?!?!?! lol I need a big saw!

How wide does the vise open? Looks almost as large as the blade lol.

The pis are at a weird angle that makes the blade look dinky. The proportion is better in real life LOL.
The saw originally came from the geology dept of a college on Long Island that I now can't remember the name of. I have no idea what they were using as a lubricant, but it is now the consitency of a substance somewhere between cold molasses and taffy. There doesn't seem to be a lot of rock snot gumming things up, just the now oxidized beyond belief schmutz.
I have run across a question that I haven't yet been able to find a good answer to. The motor is a 3450 rpm job that I'd like to pulley down to a reasonable rpm at the blade (rather than replacing the motor), if possible. Sources I've seen put the recommended rpm for a 24" between about 400 and 950. That seems like a pretty big range to me. Which end do I shoot for? It looks like BD and maybe another company have their 24" saws at 500 rpm, but that would mean a 21-ish inch pulley on the arbor for me (with a 3.15" on the motor).
Could I get away with more like 700 or 800 rpm and a more reasonably sized pulley, or am I looking at problems at that speed?

Probably meant to be used with a 1725rpm motor so you only have so many options including your megapulley. I'd replace the motor you don't have much $ in the saw as it is.
