With the older style blade like yours you definitely need to be under 500rpm

So I'm looking at either the titanic pulley, a double speed reduction with an extra pulley+shaft+bearings (and more crap to go wrong), or bite the bullet and buy a new motor. I'm thinking new motor...

For that price on a 1hp motor I think I'm going to buy one just to keep for a spare. With the start and run capacitors it will be more than enough for a 24. BTW that's a smoking deal, I was overjoyed to pay $450 for the FranTom 24 I got a year and 1/2 ago.
