does anyone here tumble cabs? at what stage do you start the tumble? after 100, 220, 400? I don't have a flat lap for polishing the backs. advice please.

I tumble cabs. I do the shaping on 60 disc, smooth them out on 180 disc, then into the tumbler at 220 grit.

I grind them on my wheels, then sand them on drums through 220 level. Then I put them in vibratory tumbler with other material for 1000 grit and then AO polish. Please note that the stones polish up like a mirror; the photo below is a poor one due to being photographed in bright sunlight by a digital camera. I now know not to photograph shiny objects with a digital camera in bright light.
