Show me ONE TIME I have supported the patriot act. Love of freedom is not something purely academic to me.

I think it's really interesting to watch you embrace not just this, but all the other things that have come to light lately. Virtually everything the left suspected Bush of, Obama has embraced. Quite enlightening, I must say. I wouldn't call it 'embrace'. I see it as all stuff we knew about since 2001 when 9-11 happened. We were both warned and told that Homeland Security was formed to monitor activities that would catch terrorists and keep us safer. I don't like it. But I like less the idea that I can get on a plane that is going to smash into a building, or that someone I care about could. The price we pay for safety can sometimes mean sacrificing a bit of freedom or privacy. I have NEVER appreciated the amount of intrusion that Homeland Security represented. It's the Democrats who argued and fought against it every step of the way. But what are our alternatives? This is exactly what they told us was going to happen, and now everyone seems surprised. That's the part I don't get. We have ALL known, and this goes back to the beginning of our discussions here nearly a year ago, that the Government monitors emails and phone calls. We even talked about it. The Democrats are not happy, but Obama is a Moderate, and moderates are a combination of Democrat and Republican anyway. The Republicans are only not happy insofar as they want to know how far a DEMOCRAT went with the plans. It is clear that Obama took Homeland Security even further than Bush did, and we all want to know how much farther. So before anyone could start with MORE conspiracy theories of what Obama is up to, he declassified the entire top secret program, and over time, all that stuff will be openly accessible. The Republicans now have no ammo. It's open to all. They must be having absolute fits right now:). It's DECLASSIFIED. No more secrets. What can we as citizens do to change this? About the only thing is to vote liberal Democrats into Congress to put further Privacy protections in place. Yes, I'm sort of crowing about this actually:). Because you voting Democrat for your privacy may mean I get to keep my Medicare and Social Security, which is just what I want. The reality is, I'm delighted with your new position and insight:).

Well, good! Then let's celebrate our new-found common ground. Though you seek to offend me by saying that my life long love of freedom and privacy are a new liberal concept that I am embracing, Anyone who has read my posts in the past knows better. Starting a new thread to illustrate a point on this.

Poor Snowdon... even tho Obama declassified the documents, the Republicans in Congress are going to go after him anyway. How stupid to spend the money extraditing someone for a crime that is no longer a crime. Ugh: www.chicagotribune.com/news/chi-edward-snowden-nsa-leaks-20130610,0,5107295.story Eric Cantor, #2 Republican in Congress: "If anyone were to violate the law by leaking classified information outside the legal avenues, certainly that individual should be prosecuted to the full extent of the law," Eric Cantor, the No. 2 Republican in the House of Representatives, said on CBS's "This Morning." "In my mind, things that may have been appropriate in the aftermath of 9/11 and in the weeks and months and even years after that, may no longer be appropriate today," Republican Representative Luke Messer of Indiana said on MSNBC. He said the leaks were obviously a violation of law. "Our system of security can't work if folks who have access to classified information are allowed willy-nilly on their own to decide what to leak, so the young man's going to have to be prosecuted," Messer said. _________________ Rep. Peter King (R-N.Y.), a member of the House Homeland Security Committee, is calling for extradition and prosecution of Edward Snowden, the whistleblower who provided the Guardian with details on highly classified NSA programs. “If Edward Snowden did in fact leak the NSA data as he claims, the United States government must prosecute him to the fullest extent of the law and begin extradition proceedings at the earliest date,” King said in a statement released to various media outlets. __________________ Heh: www.mediaite.com/online/has-white-house-hamstrung-prosecution-of-nsa-leaker-to-repair-rift-with-civil-libertarians/Is Obama Admin. Why continue to pursue someone for a crime that is not a crime today? It is a very good question indeed. If they legalize pot, it is likely they will still continue to hold all the potheads in prison. Otherwise, the prison guards union will cry a river because they'll lose 60% of their members. I am guessing, perhaps the thinking is this: "He did it when it was illegal; even if it is legal now, back then he still broke the law, therefore he is prosecuted". Just a guess. I'd rather see this guy and all the pot heads released.

Shorten them to get a bigger audience.
So, are you anti "war on drugs"?

I've always believed that drugs should be legalized and taxed. With exceptions for dealers and organized crime. Taxing drugs makes a whole lot more sense than paying $150,000 a year keeping an 18 year old in prison for having 1 oz of pot.
So suddenly, you are a pot-smoking hippie liberal too, after all that Republican crap, eh? LOL!

I have been quite clear about my position. Clearly, you are not paying attention to my writings. Because if you had you'd have to be an idiot to consider me a Republican.
I smoke no pot nor utilize other 'illegal' drugs. Pot makes me stupid and I can't afford the others. They take too much energy, time or money for me to like them.
