I found this large rock among a huge assortment I obtained several years ago. When I started cutting it, I was amazed at the pattern. I've never really seen anything that looks like this. I do know it's very stable, and hard- probably 6.5 or 7 MOH's. I have no idea where it was originally hounded. Just looking for a name for it, other than "pretty rock" or "idontknowite". It's the larger slab in this picture. Thanks Tom

Tommy, I think you've nailed it. The majority of the slabs I took from this rock (about 10 or so) were not quite as vividly colored as this one. The cab in the link you gave looks precisely like most of the slabs. Stone Canyon! Thanks!

the breccia in stone canyon is generally looser. still it could be. if selling best to say brecciated jasper and not declare it stone canyon.

I understand - and thanks for the explanation! I could write a book of my knowledge of rock identification - it would take about half a page!
Thanks, Tom

You and me both Tom! haha
Maybe you could post a few pics of the other slabs you mentioned so we can get a better look?

Yeah, I'm with Daniel on this one. I've collected a lot of Stone Canyon and our example if from there, would be very atypical. Definitely a breccia but then, those come from all over. Your example looks a lot like some of he stuff we get here in Texas even....Mel
