I forgot about the goat's milk trick.
I used to have a client who raised St. Bernard's. My client was the live-in hired help. Her sole job was dog care/breeding. Big money also. 20 acre ranch for the dogs. 1.5 acres for dog run/play area. 2 acres for the goats... 2000sq ft apartment for my client......
Jim, you mentioned Lenny father's big litters. This defy's my feeble brain's logic. Sperm cannot make many babies. He can only father as many eggs as the bitch produces. Does this mean many litters are undersized and Lenny is most efficient? Or some other scenario I haven't considered??

This dog will not tie until 2 days and 3 days and 4 days after ovulation. That is max egg availibilty. That is uncanny. He will not tie out of that time frame. And all females really stopped flagging at day 3 suggesting she is successfully impregnated. And his sperm count is very high and healthy-a big plus. Most RR's are bred w/frozen.They have lower success rate.Yes you are exactly correct. But giving the pair a comfortable enviro, good rest, letting them sleep next to each other etc helps a lot.Lenny's a good gentleman and makes his ladies comfortable. He is real easy stud dog. The St Bernard breeder is all about those dogs.people w/money commonly have a large budget for their hounds.
