here is another piece from my painted slab collection. This one came from a small gallery in England, and has been mounted in a small wood frame. the previous "What do you see?" are here: forum.rocktumblinghobby.com/thread/60641/another and here: forum.rocktumblinghobby.com/thread/57117. Each one is a different artist. The general idea is that I collect work that adds in some "small" way to the slab to bring out whatever suggestion of a scene is there. This is different from covering most of the rock and painting a picture on it. At least, I think it is a distinct art form. It is an ordinary granite. The artist (a different one from the other two we have seen) has made some small additions to "confirm" a scenic view. So, what scene doe you see? What might you add to confirm what you see to the point where others see it the way you do? ... Keep it simple (if you are seeing a dark rider battling a dragon on the edge of Mt Doom, you may be over thinking.) I have flipped the back view horizontally so it looks most like the unpainted front view. If you're ready to see what the artist did, look here: i207.photobucket.com/albums/bb114/deb193/IMG_9819_zpsb1dde4b0.jpg

Scott, I think there should be a lot of granite that looks like this. Why don't you keep an eye out for some scraps at work, and you can have a contest where folks have to virtual paint the slab.

Honestly, I would never have guessed what the artist chose to do. All my mind wants to do when I see this is twist the color trails into Van Gogh's Starry Night.

Actually in the six months I have been selling granite, we have yet to put in a granite I would like myself, and none of them would be suitable for your projects. The super nice ones are very expensive in our area. In the neighborhood of $4 a pound in 600# ++ slabs! I do appreciate the thought Daniel. That is a great idea!

I see the TV (in England telly) early Sat morning in the 60's while I was up waiting for cartoons. Lee

I see a cave painting of a mermaid jumping off the rock in to the water with a big wave coming in. Look at the very center and you will see the black rock. The mermaid tail (white) across the rock with the head down towards the water and the arms spread out as if diving off the rock.

Remember the rock is old and has probably been out in the sun for a while so the paint will be faded.

In the middle-top pinkish strip I see a rider about to face off with a giant turtle. They're not on mt. doom though so it's OK.
Neat idea Daniel and a fun looking side-collecting avenue of the hobby.

What I saw was a dark pudgy little figure (like a hobbit) holding a short dagger or sword in the middle of the slab. Behind him, in the distance is a figure on a horse - either a dark rider or Aragorn. Like something out of the LoTR.
The painted slab is wonderful and I can see why you like these.
