This afternoon I took my wife to a follow up post shoulder surgery appointment in Angels Camp (Frogtown) which is about 30 miles from where we live. These appointments tend to be rather long because she has to wait typically 20 minutes after the appointment time to see the doctor. I took advantage of this long time to visit the local rock shop - Stories in Stone. They have a lot of fossils, Amethyst cathedrals, minerals and gobs of Brazilian polished slabs, geodes and book ends. They do not have any rough rocks or slabs. I could spend all day browsing through the thousands of polished slabs. He has some dyed slabs and bookends which I hate but they are kept separately from the original stuff. Because I only had an hour at most I didn't have time to look at more than perhaps 200 slabs but I found these two. If you have a resale license and you spend at least $100 then you get them at 1/2 off. I do have the license but I didn't intend to be there long enough to spend the $100. I got these two for $9.49 for both. They are 5" tall. This one is front lit. Backlit The other one front lit. Backlit. I got them because of the pattern and druzy open area. I plan on making a 4" tall cab out of at least one of them. It will be a struggle because they are rather thin and getting a dome will take a little extra time. Unfortunately all of the slabs that he has are cut thin but they are polished on both sides. Bob

Sweet ! It's a shame the crystal pockets weren't below the eyes. He'd be a happy looking feller.

The frontlit one reminds me of a Picasso painting... Awesome score!
