Ok, thats going to be a huge post. Lets start first with something not related to carving.
I knew the time would come, but I hoped it to be still years away. I’m facing the biggest contradiction of any parent’s life. My son just announced that he is going to wed his girlfriend of about two years.
As with every parent I ever knew, I do not think they are ready to commit to each other, but I can’t really explain it to him as I’m not a role-model myself for that; having married his mother at 23 after only knowing her for 5 months.
On one side, I’m soooooo proud of that couple, she is a sweet girl, but on the other, I know that they will face difficult times as both like to spend money that is yet to be earned.
4 months to go, so there is lots of planning going on right now. Keep myself on the sidelines and let the girls fight it out. I seem to have gotten the honor of crating the bridal pendant.
She likes pink, and the overall theme is pink, but I’m thinking of something that will stand out, and got right now far to many pieces of fire agate in various states of finish to choose from, and about 30 brown (yellow/green fire) and auburn with orange fire sparklies in the 0.2 to 0.4ct range in front of me.
Have never done anything with intention like that, so I got no idea yet what kind of shapes would be appropriate and or if the FA is suitable for the occasion due to the relative dark appearance. They might be as rare as hell, but by the end of the day, despite of all the wonders that go on within, they are quite dark. So right now I hope to counteract that with the sparkle of the diamonds. Mixed diamonds with FA before and like it, but not sure how to construct something that could be worn for the occasion and stays in use afterwards. Looking around for wedding-jewelry leaves me wanting big times. Most of the pics I found, I would not want my girl to wear, even if given for free. White diamonds are so overused, its just scary and tasteless at the same time (to me at least).
So till something comes to mind, I started finishing up some pieces
Nothing better than a little panic to get moving. Here is todays loot that is nearly done
In the meantime, I deceided to try to turn this piece into a mermaid
Dug out and sanded color area for this one
anyone see something in the overall shape? Want to use the non-color areas for carving but have gotten no inspiration the whole week.
And last but not least, like most of the others, another of Christopher's stones. Basically I'm on cloud 9 right now because this is only the 3rd stone ever for me with this kind of potential to become either a "Royal" or even an imperial piece. Stumbled onto that one by chance today and needs lots of work, but the potential is easily seen.
Quick outdoor closeup (wet)
And indoor (wet)
So that leads me basically into summer and will keep me awake for quite a few weeks, ura12 ....
But it will be soooo worth it if those last 3 work out.
Till here for now, have a great weekend, Kurt
