My five year old grand daughter brought me home some small pieces of granite. I was wondering if it tumbles okay in a vib or should it be done by hand. Also, how will it shine up--she wants a little cab necklace made out of it. thanks for your help. Mike

if your talking about the pink & gray speckled granite, it tumbles easy. It is somewhat softer, and It will polish to a soft shine. Not really too glossy. I picked some up in Oklahoma recently and tried a few golf ball size pieces in my QT66, they tumbled really quick, and finished out about 3/4" to 1" in diameter. Lost quite a bit in the 1st stage but they look cool

it is gray and white speckled granite from the Sierras. It did seem a bit soft when I was trimming it on the trim saw. Think I'll try some in the tumbler and some by hand. She was all excited to show us the "rocks" she found at the cabin. She will be surprised when it is finished.. Mike

lot of variety in granite. the more uniform the hardness and the more solid (no voids) the better it will go

Thanks for the help-I have a feeling she will like it no matter how it turns out as long as grandma works on it for her.. Mike

Georgia granite has a high percent fine grain quartz and takes a great shine. Juggler Guy tumbles granite types and they are awesome.

It will be fun-we get to have her and her brother all week..our daughter is having some serious female problems and looks like surgery is on the near horizon. It is really hot here this week and will try and let her see how we polish her "rocks". Thanks for all your help to this newbie.. Mike
