Used to build and race these obnoxious watercraft 15 years ago. Had gotten socially active w/two dozen jet skiers at the local Lake Lanier. We would ride/race all up and down the 60 mile lake always bragging on who was fastest, who cheats ,longest jumps, etc. Ya know- the boy's bragging rights. Challenging other 'gangs' to race unsponsored on the public lake. A big soap opera of bragging bull split.
All those guys were members of the Jet Ski Forum... And we trashed, lied, bragged, got envious, hated the fastest guy, etc. The master builders added to the testosterous fueled debates.
Well I connected with CB, a transmission mechanic and master mechanic. His skis were always one of the fastest. He had a way of aggravating certain people and it made me uncomfortable.
We all had those little dedicated e-mail machines you hook to a television. Well CB was dang good w/the computer too. And he could make fake names and other peoples names on that simple little computer.
Two of the riders on the lake owned Jet Ski dealerships...they sold on the lake. They spent money making their skis very fast so they could sell skis by leading these packs of jet skis and getting recognition as being 'fastest'. And it worked.
But CB and a few others could often spank them in races. And it was the talk on the forum.
It took us 3 years to figure out what was going on, on the forum. CB was taking on different names and turning friends against each other and enemies into really hating each other. By using fake ID and name copying. Spreading lies using knowledge that only we knew about...
And often making a lot of grief or the 2 shop owners who were very generous with the gang.
I was angry when I found out it was my fiend and they were gonna get him and had one eye on me. Needless to say, that chapter was a closed book. That was about as much fun as I ever had-ruined by internet fraud.
