Wow, That's a tempting proposition and I'm I just checked 1,200 miles away. You are in good fossil country. I have dozens of publications about the John Day formations (fossils), and from a brief pass through several years ago, I know you are in good country. Don't count on me, but I'd certainly love to attend. Cheers, Tom

Wish I was not so far away ! I love bbq ! Strange, I just noticed on a trip to town that all the bbq joints in Carrollton, GA are closed. What ? Could not believe it ! The 4th is best time for bbq ! This year in Sand Hill Georgia there is nothing but rain and rain and rain. Been raining for two days and will again according to the "jar of wooley worms" from the TV. Most of all the 4th of July celebrations and fireworks were postphoned in this area. Good Duck weather. I have been trying to catch a few bass and catfish from my back porch that are swiming around my rose bushes, tomatoes and pepper plants ! ! LOL :-)

We are planning a vacation to the northwest from Northern Ca up to WA state hopefully when it cools off. We are new to rock hunting though I've been collecting rocks since I was a kid. We have a couple of wonderful groups here in the Houston area that we have joined and we have been bitten by the bug. I am a silver smith in addition to teaching wire wrap. I abhor putting holes in beautiful stones so I've begun to cut my own stones. I would love to return to the northwest for a rock hunt but I fear we could not be there in time for your famous BBQ. The Texas folks have been awesome and I know I'll find a bunch of kindred spirits in Oregon and Washington. Is there a calendar with any organized rock hunts for the area?
Thanks!
Judy & Dean
