First a couple of unknowns... I posted pictures of the slabs of this material in the I.D. forum so if anyone thinks they know what it is chime in. At first based on the colors I was thinking pet wood but the more I've worked with it I'm thinking agate of some type. It's VERY stable and hard - the surface of this cab is literally flawless with a beautiful shine. Another unknown...I'm sure this is some type of wood. Individual pieces are hard and solid but the slabs were breaking into small pieces. A imperial jasper piece I've had in progress for a long time...it started off with a very high dome but I had to go very thin with it to get rid of a hole that kept opening up - and immediately after taking this photo I dropped it on my concrete floor and it broke in half LOL. dang... This is another cab from the slab I posted about beforeA little scrap piece of bruno from the 25 cent scrap bin at my local rock shop. It started off rough and wedge shaped and I didn't give it much hope but was quite surprised when a little orb of lighter color started breaking through. I think it's going to look better wrapped. thanks for looking :-)

That first cab sure does remind me of the Last Chance Canyon Agate that Larry, Diane, Susan, Goober and I were digging last year.

All very nice! I agree that the third one is wood.

Oh no! You broke my favorite one! I would have been heart broken, its such a sweet cab. They are all nice though. I had some that was quite like your mystery- if not the same- it came from Susan24224 and was unnamed. It had the same creamy tones.

I think Larry posted a map of the boundaries in the "trips" sections

Nice material, nice cabs. I have a bunch of pink Imperial I need to start cutting when time allows. It's sad you had that accident but the same thing has happened to me numerous times. Usually the polishing disk "grabs" the cab, pulls it off the dop and launches it into an untraceable trajectory. Or like you while I'm admiring it it falls onto a hard surface and smashes into tiny bits. That's why I check out rug remnant sales now and then to create cushions beneath my cutting equipment.
