I have gained many friends here on this bulletin board. It has been no secret that I need a large saw for my sphere making fun. Recently, TWO fellow RTH members notified me of a suitable saw available locally. @azrockgeek & rockpickerforever BOTH notified me of the availability of said saw. Tim & Jean - please accept my humble gratitude. I was successful in acquiring said saw. If you google "humble gratitude" you will see it was not easy choosing an image to convey my thoughts. Saw Details: 24" Fran-Tom, blade with 50% remaining, in ready-to-cut 100% working order, oil included, belts workable, will replace as time and funds allow. Tim & Jean will agree the price is a steal. It turned out the seller was a colleague from lapidary class. It did not take long to craft a mutually beneficial deal. Seller even helped put the saw on my truck, followed me to my house and helped me offload it. Then we were able to push it behind the locked gate for the evening. Truth be told, although older, he is far stronger and more knowledgeable of such things. He did most of the work. Tonight I got it around the side yard onto the patio. Here are some images. Taken the night of delivery for Jean & Tim Overexposed, sorry. This is the feed screw. Anybody know how to determine the TPI? Next project is to move it over 30 feet of grass and into final position. THANK YOU JEAN & TIM! You both have my back!

Nice, cool how folks help each other out on here, and how they do show appreciation.
That saw is awesome, can't wait to see your spheres!

You're welcome, Scott. I already have something in mind that you can do for me to show your gratitude, LOL! (It involves your sphere machine, not your new saw.) It looks like it HAS wheels on the bottom of the legs, although they are not real large. You could roll it across the grass on a couple sheets of plywood?
Ooh, just read your pm. That's what you already figured on doing. Nice score!
Thanks for getting pics up so quick. It really looks like it's in good shape!

herchenx - now I can cut the Turitella agates! rockpickerforever - send me a cube. The sphere is yours. Yes, the saw is in terrific shape. Will get plywood tomorrow and move it to the final spot. I'll also start construction on the shelter for that side of the house. I'll make a free standing cover that protects from rain and sun. Freestanding to avoid permits and (shitty) city inspectors. I may turn the entire side of the house into sphere-making and get out of the garage! Time will tell.

Scott,
I'm curious as to how large of spheres your machine can make? I have some stones I have been thinking about having made in to spheres.

vegasjames - I am currently set up to make spheres up to 6 inches. Maybe a bit larger... We'd have to discuss it.

vegasjames - I am currently set up to make spheres up to 6 inches. Maybe a bit larger... We'd have to discuss it. That sounds great. I have a really large chunk of magnatite that would make a great cannonball. I also have some very large chunks of Tiffany, and some other interesting rocks such as ecoglite and a stone with small garnets dispersed in a white matrix. They should make for some interesting spheres.

sounds awesome. PM me to work it out. Or we can meet in the Mojave! I was thinking about Saturday since they originally said 102 with rain. Now they are saying 109 with rain, which would be miserable.

Yes. Get out a ruler or scale, and count how many threads there are in an inch! I will start looking through my rough, and find a suitable candidate to send you to make a sphere. (I'll cube it first.) Jean

That saw is the cat's meow. The heavier the better. That should set you free to do spheres. 24 is the way
I am now the owner of an infamous "Solarsphere" made in Chino California. I wish I could make Jean so happy. Look at her brilliant smile. You always knock me out of the saddle Scott. Have you no shame???
