Howdy folks, Just took another batch out of my UV-10. Just n time because I have kids for a nature walk/fossil hunt on Monday. This was a mixed batch, mostly Texas wood and slabs with a few leftovers thrown in. I just post a few pics of some of the highlights. Thanks for looking.....Mel Dumortierite from Indian pass, CA. Found a little of this stuff a couple of months ago when I was gong through some boxes. levis blue and takes a good polish. ![](http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b377/sabre52/july%202113/DSCN7575_zps4ecdad74.jpg) Texas wood: ![](http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b377/sabre52/july%202113/DSCN7578_zps3b198e29.jpg) Texas palm: ![](http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b377/sabre52/july%202113/DSCN7577_zpsc76457eb.jpg) Mozarkite: ![](http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b377/sabre52/july%202113/DSCN7576_zps1ab621cc.jpg) Larger specimens and endcuts. Some of these go several ounces. ![](http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b377/sabre52/july%202113/DSCN7579_zps44d03016.jpg) Only a few of the many slabs in this batch. Many will go for pendants for the kiddies. ![](http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b377/sabre52/july%202113/DSCN7580_zpsea6fde85.jpg) ![](http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b377/sabre52/july%202113/DSCN7581_zps4a63b17b.jpg)

The Dumortierite reminds me of sodalite, is it soft? Cool stuff!

Wow, nice variety. My favorite is the red one with white banding in the middle of the right side in the third picture up from the bottom. Sort of looks like a Laker.

Randy: The dumortierite is agate hard. It ran fine with all these agates and jaspers. It's probably closer in appearance and hardness to blue aventurine, though a bit harder. Way harder than sodalite and the color very much like lapis which is why another name for it is desert lapis.
Rob: That's a Queensland Agate, as is the big yellow on the center. If they weren't so expensive, I'd like to tumble a hundred pounds of those.....Mel

This winter when I go duck hunting I need to get out to Indian Pass. I found an old scientific reference to the field where the dumortierite is. I love that color!
Desert Lapis, harder and better polish, no pesky pyrite!
