I suspect cuprite, similar to the cuprite in Sonora Sunrise/Sunset. Whatever it is it appears to be copper-associated.

I have something that looks very similar but so far nobody seems to know what it is. It did come from an area of copper mines though. Do you know the general area from where that piece came from?

no I agree that is copper related .. it is very soft and probably needs stabalizing .. Just looks much more vibrant than what I have seen like the cuprite .. sonora sunrise"s and chrysacolla"s .. It came from an old collection so locality is unknown .. I live in NJ but it could be from anywhere ..

Cuprite with some chrysocolla & augilite. Seems similar to "Parrotwing" but largely red. Cuprite, Sonoron Sunrise Cuprite, Parrotwing - less red than yours
