I just got mine last night. Haven't had much time to play- especially after having to assemble the discs and cut holes- but I am concerned and need to ask--- Should the motor sound like it is grinding to a halt with the slightest pressure- even on high speed? I am really worried that maybe I got a bad motor. I am only attempting a fraction of the pressure I use on the Nova Genie wheels. I do have sponge backings on my laps. I have the 8" HD Universal.

Can you take a short video of it for us Tela? Mine makes a noise but not sure if it is what you are experiencing.

Good question! I'll try to do that. In the meantime- it just sounds like it is bogging down way too much.

Well great. You jinxed mine. I've never had a problem and now it's making a grinding noise. Lame.

Mine is kind of noisy, too. But it pretty much always has been. It doesn't bog down, though.

Definitely should not be bogging down at full speed. The one I've used had pretty good torque at most speeds, well, above about half speed on the knob anyway. I would notify them right away, I doubt you will have a problem getting it fixed or replaced.

OK- after using it a lot more, I'm thinking it maybe isn't bogging down as much as I thought. It does strain a bit and slow down on high, but maybe I am pushing too hard- like on a nova wheel.
I just wish I had a real life example to compare it to. I'll try to get my son to take a video tomorrow.

Tela, check out Youtube. There is a video on a high-speed vibration and wobble that might be helpful. You might also be able to find a video with a normal running Ameritool. I would also read the comments to see what people say.

I'm not familiar with the Ameritool motors, Is it a belt feed, or a gear head type motor ? The gearheads will make some noise in the gear box.

I might not have been born back to reality I'm happy with my 6" Ameritool I didn't get the lap package just the machine so I don't know up soft/rubber back laps I use different sized laps & 8" green stone and such not made for the machine and it may be to heavy for it not sure I stress test it pretty good but always use a light touch best

Everything is mounted in a plastic base so vibration sounds are to be expected to some degree. There is a guy who has done demos at some of the NW shows who modifies them for intarsia and I've never heard a complaint. Lee
