I'm rapidly approaching the point where I want to use Hxtal or some other sealant on my slabs. I'll probably start with something less expensive - any suggestions? - and then graduate to Hxtal. My question is when to use it? Many of my slabs don't appear to have any cracks or pits until after I've used several grits and they are exposed, so applied a sealant prior to polishing doesn't seem to make any sense. Does this mean that I should go through the entire process, from start to finish, apply the sealant and then do it all over again? Or would I need to simply apply it after the first process is complete and then buff it only?

I think go a few stages, apply, then next stage, then re-apply .... as I recall Michael Hoover applies after a few different stage.
but this logic is for Hxtal, which is fairly good a penetrating. May not apply to thicker resin. Also if you wet polish, and non-marine resin will cloud.
I think I would try acetone thinned marine epoxy just before starting (to hide cracks) and then Hxtal after after fine and pre-polish to go after pitts.
