Our Lortone QT6 has taken to stopping for no apparent reason. It is not overweight and the motor runs well. All it takes is a push by hand and it will start and run for awhile. Could it be the drive shaft needs to be replaced or some other possibility?

Check the belt. It may have stretched.

I had an old lortone 3 pounder that was doing that and even did it with a new belt with proper tension. I used to have to tip the machine so that all the weight went to the drive shaft to keep it turning. I know that's not a great answer but it kept ours rolling. All you can do is make sure your belt is good and your shafts are oiled and spinning freely.

if belt is not slipping, lube any bushings, make sure pulley is not slipping on shaft. if pulley is not slipping, otherwise motor is getting weak. lubrication and tightening up everything should do it though

If the drive shaft is still turning and the barrel is just not catching then it may just be that the barrel has gotten slick and needs to be roughened up slightly with a file or wood rasp. If the drive shaft itself is not turning then do the belt tightening etc.

I had the same problem with my QT-12... Turned out the belt was slipping.

My OLD Lortone was doing that periodically. The old motor had just lost it's power and it could only do a 1/2 load. Tried most of the suggestions, but finally had to break down and buy a new motor from the Rockshed. Installed and the problem went away permanently. Or at least for several years I hope.
