On our vacation in Montana,I found this agate on the upper Yellowstone River, about 12 miles from the Yellowstone Park... Its a regular blahhhed agate except it has garnet imbedded into the stone.. Cool huh.....I'm sure you could pan that area and come up with some goodies out of that river!

Might be worth a try Mike. Gemstones are heavy, and will settle out in the same sort of places as gold. I used to screen the gravel in a dry creek bed in Ca., and find Almandine garnets.

Garnet paper was made close to here. Garnet Hill is close to here. And the creeks that cut thru the garnet bearing schist are covered with them at the deeper spots. Schist from Garnet Hill

Only had about 15 minutes to walk the gravels on the Yellowstone, wife didn't know I took off.She turned her head once and I was booking towards the river-LOL... Wasn't mad,but I had the car keys,so she couldn't get her book to sit under a tree to read till I got back...My bad..LOL She just laughed and asked,if I got her any rocks...Of course I said yes..(Wink wink)....
