So green! Do you have poison oak back there, James? Or maybe it's poison ivy? We haven't had any rain here since early spring. Everything is brown and dry, fire hazard.

When people visit from arid western areas they are often surprised by the green Jean. Rainfall is at a high this year. That creek valley is always green during warm season. The humidity was fogging the camera and the plant life is all humidity lovers like ferns, beeches, wild azalea, poplar, big leaf magnolia. The creek sits between two steep hills creating a gorge, blocking light and airflow allowing large towering oaks to add to the shade and stillness. Poison Ivy is the most feared evil in the woods.

Thanks Tommy. When i go out west i get a neck ache looking down ALL the time at rocks. Can not walk 3 steps w/out picking up a rock.
The foliage is cool but we can't see or rocks.
The fallen trees are due to a toranado. Over 7 years i have cut and heated the house with 3 white oaks and 2 red oaks that fell. They were 32-38 inches thru at chest level with no limbs for a long ways up. The others are rotting.

Beautiful! Reminds me of western Washington, home of most of my in-laws. I agree that the trouble with all the green beauty is you can't see rocks on the ground.

Nice nature spot. Thanks for sharing. Looks like perfect Hellbender habitat. Just too far south. Must have zillions of frogs and salamanders in those woods.

"This is the ATV trail that goes for miles. No one ever goes back there." That is an oxymorun* around here. The trails are so crowded I don't even hardly ride my dirt bike any more. Oh for a nice lonely single track! * I know this is spelled wrong, but the correct spelling makes my post get deleted, LOL!!!!!

Pat, I am glad you think like that. Ya gotta see the rocks.
I had one of those attached to my trout on a stringer in Hiawassee(GA/NC line) Scott. My Dad and I marveled at that thing.
The creek is full of darters, crayfish and some kind of dinosaur minnow that burries in the sand makes a plecostomus look pretty Brad
It is desolate here 22 miles from downtown Atlanta Mark. A lot due to the airport noise and lack of interstate. It takes hours to get to the opposite corner of the land block behind the house due to complex trials. Most owned by the bank, and my place is stuck into it.
Thanks John It's the squealing that bothers me. What are they doing back there?

More pictures from that walk My cabin See his little teeth This is the corner of my and my neighbors farm and the deer go around here. The brush is kept low for a reason. A tornado passed behind the house about 7 years ago. I burned 5 white/red oaks for 7 years in the woodstove. They were 32-38 inches dia. That's why so many trees are layed over. Also hunt in that chair. It is on the end of the ridge between the creeks. Oh, chair in upper right corner of photo Never seen this one. Bream bait city. Not a stinger Better walk around those Back to the house. That is the garden shed My wife's weird garden

you live in a beautiful place.
I grew up in the Appalachians in Pennsylvania and then in Georgia. We lived in College Park for a few years but in the summer and fall I worked in North GA at a camp, not far from Rome.
There is a lot I don't miss about the east, but the woods is one thing I do.

I am 12 miles south of College Park John Herchenx. I stay in the woods and away from 'the east' haha
Rome is beautiful. Black and a broad colored jasper is common around Rome. My wife and I have collected there for many years.
Looking at your marathon trip and photos I see a beautiful place too.
