2 weekends ago was the big outing/meetup with Thunder69 and Wyobrian. Last weekend I had to go pick up my daughter from Camp, roughly 4 hours southwest from me, somewhat near Cañon City Colorado. I had hoped to hit a cool rock shop on my way there - The Gold Mine Rock Shop - but it wasn't open yet. I snapped a pic on the way by A few miles up the road I saw a large (what I thought was) rattlesnake along the road coiled up. I pulled off thinking I'd get a picture of a dead rattler, and to my surprise it was a large, very NOT dead bullsnake. He was striking and making the loud hiss at every car that whizzed by and I knew it was a only matter of time before he got clobbered, so I quickly grabbed a stick and drug him off the white line. Once he was clear of the road I thought I'd take a few pics. I forget how intimidating these guys can be, the hiss they make is almost a roar. The road was busy enough I didn't want to risk running across and dropping him, so I opted to put him down by the water. It was early but warming up so hopefully he made his way to safety within the rocks along the river. When I drove back several hours later I didn't see him dead on the road anywhere so I think he's probably OK.

Those may be the same as Jean's 'link' Scott.
I use the Pilstrom's for unloading nursery pots in the P/U truck. And grabbing nursery stock in nursery.

That Bull Snake looks similar to some King Snakes over here in color shape size
Except they may get bigger and are not as much a snake eater/killer as a King. We get big Kings here on the farm just over 5 feet

Scott, you didn't have to do that! James, tongs are the one thing we never made, although we had plans for doing so at one time, and a lot of requests for them. The tips are usually cast aluminum, and you can't get them made domestically and compete with those made cheaply overseas. People seem to have no idea how much it costs to make things in the US.

Do you guys make those Jean? Yes, sir. Haven't been actively marketing them, only selling to a nearby pet store the last couple years. FINALLY, after a couple years of messing around, got the website up and running a month or so ago. Have had the domain name for over ten years. Have had a few visitors, but no sales yet. I'm sure the shipping costs turn some - okay, a lot! - of people off. Have a lot of stock, it's not coting me anything to store it.

Jean, I did that cuz everybody needs your product! All rockhounds need a snakestick of some sort. Native sticks are not always safe and effective. Your hooks ARE! The one everyone wants/needs it this one. Maybe Jean will trade rockks for hooks?? ha! Jim... you pinesnakes (bullsnakes are a different species!) get almost six feet, the kingsnakes are near the same size, but not as thick. John, that is a nice bullsnake!

Scott, that's the collapsible one. Actually, for use in the field, I prefer the field hook. Not home now, or I'd put the photo in.

yeah, collapsible for use when we are carrying other hounding tools. Collapsed it fits in the back pocket.

Not quite back pocket size for that one, Scott, unless you happen to have big back pockets, LOL! The one you pictured is good to go in a backback. The bitty ones will move stuff around, but won't lift much weight. They are like a car antenna - well, the old style ones, anyway. Useful if you want to find or wakeup a small snake or invertebrate in substrate. Get them before they get you! This be the field hook I was talking about. It'll pull up full sheets of 1/2" or better plywood without even thinking about it. Have to say your shout out "Shed done" had me thinking snakes, but I know you meant a shed built around rock saw. When the rains come in November/December, you'll be high and dry. I wish they'd hurry up and come, my truck needs a free carwash!

Great snake save John!
Those are some nice looking tongs. I bought a couple of another brand a few years ago. Have a broad bottom and are supposed to be soft hold but are pretty much "no hold". Very dangerous for handling rattlers as the spring is not strong enough. One pair broke a few months ago and the jaws will not operate at all now, the other pair don't work right either so I'm now going back to just the snake stick. That's a nice one you've posted Scott. Mine is not nearly as neat as it does not collapse.....Mel

Scott, I don't need any more rocks right now. Maybe I can bring a sampling to show at the Cady field trip? Could use any $$$ to pay for gas, LOL! Okay, enough of these shameless plugs!
Forgot to comment - good save on the snake, John. He's a beauty! I'd welcome a kingsnake or gopher snake in my yard anytime. 'Course, they'd probably eat all the sceloperous and and baby alligator lizards that currently reside there.
