Can't say as I blame Helen for her obsequious defense of Vegas, I am all for diversity of viewpoints. Makes life more interesting. These discursive discussions that become extreme bouts of prolix tinged with hokering and invidious words are really quite amusing. Here's to the gormless pettifogs!

Helen coming to his rescue was not surprising. They should exchange email addresses and privately try to one up each other, continuuing their mutual adorations.. I accept diversity, and embrace knowledge. However, it reaches a point when it is too much. TMI!

vegasjames, your vast knowledge on seemingly all subjects is wasted on us mere mortals. We are just a bunch of simple rockhounds with fifth grade educations. I would venture a wild guess that most people here do not appreciate you or your brilliance. Perhaps you can find another site to frequent, with people that share your intelligence and passions. Should you ever develop social skills and learn how to play well with others, you could try a comeback. Don't go away mad, just go away. Jean, I hope I never get too verbose for anyone! Tela, I said what I think needed to be said. It was probably on the minds of a few people here.

I don't see that VegasJames needed 'rescuing' on his own thread he started. What I did was simply point out how rude it was to tell HIM to leave his own thread, or that he provided too much information to you, when not everyone feels it was too much information, or we wouldn't still be talking about it. It's pretty easy to simply not respond if you weren't interested in the subject yourself. Yet you did. Why don't YOU leave?

I did not TELL him to leave, I said
"Perhaps you can find another site to frequent, with people that share your intelligence and passions."
It would serve him better.
I will not bother responding to your last staement. Who has the thin skin now?

Helen, have you looked back through this thread to see who was calling out all the names? I tried to help vegas with his people skills in a message in a very nice way and I got the FU and he started calling me names on every thread. He has tried to beat Don to death and he was the one that started it with his "I know more than everyone in the world" no matter what Don's proof was. People are a little fed up with his bashing Don every time Don has a comment. Sooooo, some people came here to bash vegas I would guess. Now, here I am being Don's frog in slimy odor again. Jim

Well, I sure wish we'd all go back to bashing topics and not people.

When Jim (wampidy) voiced his own opinion on a previous thread, vegasjames immediately accused him of being my knight in shining armor. Of coming to my rescue. According to vegasjames's way of thinking, only he is allowed to have opinions. Anyone who doesn't immediately agree with him isn't allowed to have an opinion. You blindly stepped right into the trap by coming to vegasjames's rescue. You made yourself his knight in shining armor. Or maybe what's good for the goose, isn't necessarily good for the gander ? Oh, and I see vegasjames was trying to bait me into an argument over on the L/G Forum. He'll deny this of course, but the attempt was poorly veiled. Anyone from this site who has been following our arguments over here, and who also happens to be a member over there will recognize it for what it was. Too bad. we both know that starting things on that forum can and will get you booted off.

Don, I just now went back over 2 weeks on BOTH of your posts on that forum, and unless you are talking about a different forum, I see no arguments at all. What's to argue about over there? It's only about rocks. What are you talking about?

True dat. So I share his intelligence and passions. What now? I said PEOPLE, not person. Despite what you might think, you do not represent most people on this forum.

It's only about rocks. What are you talking about? It wasn't on one of my threads Helen. I voiced an opinion on someone else's thread. A little bit later vegasjames came in, in all of his brilliant glory, and countered what I had said. Oh, and for the record, If he comes to one of the threads I start on L/G, and starts mouthing off, he'll immediately be reported to the mods. I'll also lock the thread, so he can't remove or change anything.

I wouldn't presume to represent most people on the forum. Judging by THIS section of the forum, my opinions are obviously not the majority opinion.
On the other hand, per the forum stats, in the last 24 hours, 123 members and 1500+ 'Guests' have been reading this forum. On this thread, at most there have been 6 active posters. Who's to say what 'most people' think? "most people" don't post, we have no idea what they read however.
Whether a topic is interesting or not isn't up to anyone to decide, not me, and not you. That you don't find someone's topic interesting is just fine. There are loads of topics I don't find interesting, and I don't say anything on them.
I ONLY comment on topics that interest me at the moment, as do you. So don't say this topic doesn't interest you, or you wouldn't be talking on it. I don't see you on every topic on the forum.
That said, I can't think of a topic on earth that can ever provide 'too much' information. Ever. There's always someone who appreciates a little bit more information. But you knew that. I just don't get why you had to be so mean about it.
And for the record, I think you're a lovely woman too. We can disagree, but I have never known you to be outright mean to anyone. It just took me back, that's all.

We've had our fights (well you probably still think we're fighting, but I don't). Life's too short to fight about nothing... but we can learn til the day we die. Even when people disagree, there's still things to be learned from both sides, don't you think?

Helen, given the chance, I can get along with anyone. But when they launch personal attacks on me, the friendship quickly ends.
When people copy information from something they googled, and try to make it appear that the info came from their own brain, instead of being honest and posting the whole link and giving credit where credit is due, that person very quickly earns my contempt. That isn't info that they personally know. It's stolen info from another person or people.
I try to learn something new each and every day. If I think something I've learned is important enough, I'll share it on this and other forums. But if it's something I've learned from the internet or another person, I'll give credit where credit is due. I may be getting old, but learning is keeping my mind young and sharp. I watched my father sit in his recliner and turn into a vegetable. He died of Alzheimer's. I don't intend to die the same way he did.
