Dogs can pass pathogens to humans as well. In fact, many pets can carry pathogens that can harm humans. Birds for example can pass psittacosis to humans. Frogs, turtles and reptiles can......... That's one very good reason to keep your dogs healthy. While I have owned all of the remaining animals you listed at one time or another in the past, I no longer do. Especially birds. Cockatiels, parrots - I don't miss their powder! I've got enough dust around here as it is... James, are you calling my dogs fat, LOL? I occasionally see buzzards out in the desert, but I think I've actually seen more of them closer to home. Those dogs do like to lay out in the sun, especially the pitbull. Something strange going on between her ears. Before I got her, I was unaware of pitbulls habit (liking, needing?) of doing that. That thin fur with no undercoat doesn't provide much protection from the sun, but I've yet to see her get sunburned. 97 degrees on the patio yesterday, and she had to go lay in the sun until she couldn't take it anymore. I'm with you on that, Jim - have dogs, be happy. Although I doubt I could personally eat any dog, let alone my own, I would never fault anyone that chose to do so if they were starving. I've thought of that exact scenario over the years. "What would I do?"

I have never heard of a zoonotic disease of amphibian origin. I suppose if you drink frog/toad water you could get salmonellosis.
ANY disease that is reptile/amphibian origin is certainly and absolutely avoidable.
Just wash your freaking hands.
There are no known airborne diseases known from these animals. This is because our bodies are so different most pathogens cannot live in both environments. That is why salmonella is the culprit 99.9% of the time. It grows on the feces and folks eat sh\t when they don't wash their hands. In 11 years of owning a reptile store I got sick exactly 1 time and that was because a monitor sprayed shit everywhere including my face. A thorough hosing down (literally) was a little tooo late. My employees never once complained of getting sick from the animals. Just wash your hands.
This public service announcement brought to you by @shotgunner. It was not aimed James in any way. Thanks James for the opportunity to clear up this situation.

They don't always think to wash their hands.

And their parents are ignorant and don't teach good hygeine. Yes, I saw it all the time. I even had folks sell off valuable animals very cheaply because the wife got pregnant and the dr said no reptiles it could cause a miscarriage. BS.

I just got off the couch. Laying down w/two lazy hounds. For 20 years, a habit. They put me into a deep relaxation. I may get germs but the peace is worth it. I am never sick, so i must be immune. They seem to like it as much as i do. Guess they have spoiled me. I think having animals around has boosted my immune system, too. None of the run f the mill germs seem to bother me. Isn't that an AC/DC song? Who spoiled who?

Happiness is my dog sitting on my lap, licking my hands and face. I ain't dead yet.
On the rare occasion when I do get sick, my dog understands how I'm feeling, more than my wife does. Couple years ago I suffered through pneumonia without going to the doctor. My dog was glued to my side. I couldn't move without him right beside me. Maybe that's why I've sat up with him at night when he's not feeling good. It's a loyalty thing.
