Can someone tell me how much the pattern would change if your cut it at 90 degrees from what you have?

Grizman, I wondered that myself. I think it might be like cutting wood across the grain, instead of with it. Cells standing on end, so small dots instead of elongated ones?

I can see why you like it. It doesn't look like dino bones I'm familiar with. Could it be due to the angle cut?

Pat, the photos don't do it justice. The exterior of it looks more like classic bone than the interior. When I slabbed it, I basically cut across the widest dimension. Considered cutting it 90 degress from that, but wanted to maximize the slab size. Had I done that, it may have come out looking more like one expects bone to look like. Its origin is unknown, as are what type of dinosaur, or which particular bone. Average maximum dimensions are 3.25 x 2.5 inches. There are some fractures inside, which may or may not have been there before cutting. But I think I let it get too hot when sawing, and I know bone is heat sensitive. Live and learn...

Thanks. I like the different cut as well as the traditional cut. It's something to be on the lookout for. I didn't know bone was heat sensitive. I suspect that means to go slow in the saw.

I am having a hard time believing that we made the same kind of cut for the same reason within a week of each other. Mine is really dark though and not sure how cabs would look from it. I love the pattern in yours and wish the pattern in mine showed up better. Jim

I see the moon blue chalcedony linings. Bet it is prettier in real life. I like seeing it cut at an off angle. Helps me understand the shape of the cells.

I don't use slabs Jean. I'll have to have Brad or Brian help me find a chunk to cube up.
Your offer is very kind.

Is that stuff edible? LOL.
Me like. I also have some that looks like that, somewhere, and I had no idea it was dino bone i'm glad you posted this. I thought it all had a blockish type cell structure I guess not. I gota piece on the back porch the size of a bowling ball but it's the yellow/brown type I don't think it's that desirable? Not sure it's worth anything or not. I'll have to find another type I have and post pics of it as it's kinda cool.

You could probably lick it if you wanted, but it would be a little hard on the teeth to eat. Rob, I picked that up at an estate sale - a 50 cents a lb estate sale. I about fell out when I saw it! I loaded up a bucket, and before I could pay, someone offered me $100 to set the bucket down and walk away. He must've seen me put something in there he liked.
Please post a pic of your other type, I'd like to see it!
