This one came as a surprise to me as I didn't get any indication from the matrix that the inside would look like this. Any ideas what it is? inside outside

yep, wood. probably from the rio grande river. JR, I can easily see why one would think this could be pet wood, but...the matrix is typically agate. More precisely, it looks and feels very much like a BIG Montana type. I got the rough from a friend in FL but who knows where she got it. Denny

I'm pretty sure that's a Montana Agate. I bought one, recently, that looked like this and also had slabs come off it that looked like agatized Deschutes jasper or something. A very peculiar specimen but the slabs really rock - imagine, if you will, a slab of Deschutes or Biggs that is translucent and is gemstone hard like a Monty! Gorgeous stuff. C-ya, Rick

A long time ago, I got a piece that had lines like this from Tony, and he called it a Montana too. While the color isn't as yellow as yours, the lines are similar:

Since we learned MOntanas are actually pet wood, this thread is very coherent in the descriptions of the single stome.

Maybe I was wrong. At any rate, I like mine and I REALLY like yours!
