I am brand new to the forum and rocks in general but i have been lurking for a little bit trying to learn all I can:) You are all a talented bunch and I aspire to one day post something pretty for you all to gaze at;) I have a Gift shop and now a brand new rock shop on Drummond and am just trying to figure things out as i go along. I cannot do a cab yet...and have not wrapped my first rock but i have lots of tutorials from some very talented people so I think that will help. I got some valuable advice lately from a fellow rock enthusiast to do one thing and do it well then move on to the next thing. So that's what i have decided to do! So please allow me to lurk and learn from you all and as soon as I feel confident or capable I will jump in to the deep end too. Just saying hi:)

Hi Sue. I'm from Alpena but I've never been to Drummond Island. One of these days I'll have to check it out. You can lurk if you want to, but its a lot more fun if you ask some questions. People here are really helpful.

Thanks:) I didn't want to ask silly questions that may have been asked already so I wanted to read a bit first;) Was a little shy to post but wanted you all to know I am not antisocial just a newby trying to find my way. I am going to start with cabbing and work my way up from there. First ones were pathetic so I am signed up for some training, so hopefully I will get it eventually! Please stop at our shop if you are ever up this way and say hello! Thanks for the introduction...always good to meet a neighbor and find new rock buddy in my area. Consider this the calm before the storm of questions...lol:) Sue

well hello again Sue and welcome to the forum. Ask lots of questions and post lots of pictures. Everyone likes pictures and sometimes questions are answered much easier when a picture is attached.

Gosh, I hope there isn't a rule against silly questions, because I ask them on a regular basis.

Thanks Chuck:) I won't post my terrible first cab picture because...well, because the only thing I did right was that most of them didn't fly off the dop stick. Ok, well that one did. lol
But seriously, my first cabs were done on a swap top unit and I am sure it was my technique but all of them had flat bits everywhere and nothing was rounded like a cab should be. I watched a few videos, one I found on this forum and the hand motions I saw were nothing like mine. I was trying to do the j motion while swirling the stick...he was just swishing back and forth and his were beautifully rounded...go figure.
I guess I can only get better...right? Thanks for your suggestions and guidance! Sue

Welcome to the forum.
Don't worry, we all have given flying lesson to some buggers at one time or other (and still do, from time to time). I think most of us here, while not absolute starters, are still in the beginner-stages. That's one of the nice things in this hobby; you never stop learning something new.
