It has been a few years since i was last there and those were on property that may be closed now. And those are cherry picked. But other spots i have collected that are now closed i could fill up but i gave it all away ha. A Floridain friend is coming up next week and i am to take him there since our coral rivers are flooded. Lets see what i can do.

I was wondering why jamesp was playing with something other than coral. Besides the rivers being flooded, a good reason to go there is because that is some beautiful rock. Good luck on your trip. May the rock gods turn them pretty side up and heal all the fractures. Jim

James, have you collected at Graves Mountain or that area? I found a page that had some info about Graves Mountain: www.rockhounds.com/rockshop/graves_mountain.htmlOne of the prettiest rocks I've got is a turgite from Chubbs Mountain, Gaston County NC, but they have Turgite in Georgia too, supposedly at Graves Mountain. These pix don't do the piece any justice, in person it's incredible...just one of the prettiest rocks I've ever seen: Here's a page from someone who found pieces at Graves Mountain: www.findingrocks.com/cgi-bin/viewcollectorspecimen.cgi?id=1009Not sure if you know about this, since it's right in your own backyard... but its probably the most beautiful rock in Georgia if you can find it.

Hellen, Do you have that Graves Mountain rock? I'd love to see some slabs and I can't even imagine the cabs it would provide.

I do have the rock, but I'm not cutting it. James lives within an hour of that area, he can probably find lots to cut. I bought mine from an old estate. It's too holey to cut, and not very big (about 3" around).

You cant cut the Graves material it is a coating on the rock. Some of the most AWESOME colors you have ever seen! They also have Lazurite in Quatrz that makes great cabs and world class Rutile. There will be a open house the first weekend in Oct. if anyone can make it. I go there every chance I get!
P.S. James I love the Jasper I will have to try and get some!

kap it seems the iridescent colors can be restated with an overnight soak in common white vinegar.

You are welcome to go Kevin. I got to show a Floridian how to find that jasper next weekend AUG 31/JAN 1. Meet me on I-75 before Cartersville. There must be a million acres of it.

I will check with John and see what his schedule is. He is headed for Young Harris College for silversmith classes. Will inform Kevin. Cool. Looking forward.

I'll second Jim's wishes for good luck on your next collecting adventure.

Well thank you picking rock forever . The rivers are flooded so no coral for James
Thankyou for the wish well. I wish i could go w/real rock hounds from out west.
You guys are my hero. That stuff is variable. Bartow County probably has the largest variety of mines in Georgia. Craziest color of clays. Do ya see how the color is from tiny tiny specs.
Like a spray.

the 5th pic I like the best.. with the quartz band running through it, I think it's quartz, but all the material is really nice looking too!!
I'm definitely giving you a call for my next trip to Georgia.... I was in Rome, but didn't get a chance to stop & collect anything... next trip will be just Georgia for a week of collecting and family fun!!
May all your pieces be Gemmy!! lol
