Here's a few I did yesterday. The first five are from a box of slabettes Krystee (tntmom) sent me for her birthday. Yes, you read that right, she sent an sfrb full of goodies to me. Thank you, Krystee! EDIT - Krystee wanted to celebrate her birthday by giving something away. She sent me a box of slabettes and chunkettes of rough. link to postI posted photos of what she sent to me link to photosBlack feather? (I think), Amethyst w/cacoxinite, and I believe she told me the last one is coprolite. Has bits of gold color (marcasite?) in it. Chrysocolla and leopardskin jasper I made some smaller cabs to put into rings: Turitella agate, coprolites, blue tiger eye, some kind of blue agate, a red unknown with a light eye. The tigereye The agates The coprolites Turitella agates These are for pendants, not rings Some dino bone Closeup of one on right (sorry, not a very good photo) Another unknown. Soft, almost looks like it has feldspar in it? Liked the pink color. This is some type of granite, which was found south of Quartzsite in January. Interesting colors. The one on the left came from an estate sale rock I slabbed. I thought from the outside that the colors would be darker - definitely not pink! One on right maybe an ocean jasper? Final one, a larger cab (not finished) from the same rough as the one on left in the photo above. Will take another photo when it is completed. Thanks for looking! Jean

Those are some dandy looking cabs, Jean! Not a bad collection for someones else's birthday! I sure like the amethyst in cacoxinate & your ring size ones are going to make some mighty fine rings!

They are all very nice but I really like the color combination on the granite and the round shape. The last one is going to be special.

Thank you all for your comments.
Donnie, the cacoxinite was just a tiny piece, not thick enough to make a proper cab. So it's more of a two sided cab. The purple and gold will look good wrapped in gold filled.
Thanks, Craig. I am more into free forms than calibrated. Since I don't need to make them in sizes to fit pre-made settings, I can do what I want with them. It also maximizes cab size if you have just a small slab.
Rich, the colors in that granite were a surprise to me as well. I took a few slabs off a potato size rock I found. Will need to see if I can find the rest of the rock it came from. I made a round shape because I don't really know what I'm going to do with it! Unfortunately, the granite is a little crumbly, and I had a small section on the edge crumble away. Will have to rework now. Or not...

My birthday is in Feb. I will PM to remind you Jean the cab Machine.
Jean, Jean the Cab Machine - all sing in harmony please.
I did not know you speak 古之所善戰者,勝於易勝者也。
Beautiful variety of color and texture. The south quartzite granite is unreal.
How many hours are in a California day?

You did all those in JUST ONE DAY? ? Wow! Look great! Okay, I have to confess. The top five (from Krystee) I already had roughed out. So I finished those up, and did the rest of them. So there are 18 of them waiting for me on the coffee table. Nineteen stones if you count the blue tiger eye in the ring already. I will credit using dopsticks for being able to do them so quickly. After years of denial that I could do them better/faster holding them in my hand, I decided to dop everything this batch, since I had those small ring-sized ones. Thought I'd give it a try. I kik myself that it took so long for me to come to my senses and at least try it. My husband said I told you so. Already have an Inland dop pot (works great!) and plenty of stick. So now I dop. And I still have my fingernails. I will have to find the "Do you dop?" thread, and change my preferences. Yes, I believe I already knew that. What do you like? Do you wear rings? What size? Silver or gold? What type of stone? I'll most likely be posting these as I get them done, you can tell me then. 古之所善戰者,勝於易勝者也。? That was a test, I'll put in in English now. I was just looking for something, and ran across a round setting for bolo tie. I'm thinking I'll reduce the QZTE granite round in size, and it'll look pretty cool as a bolo. Have to be careful with it, it wants to undercut real bad. I could cut a smaller one for a ring, not sure how it would wear, though. Might give it a try. Eighteen hours, same as your day. JK... It gets light here by 7am, but I wait another hour so the noise doesn't sleepus interruptus my next door neighbors (whose bedroom is the closest room in their house to my patio). They are the best neighbors, and so I respect their right to peace and quiet. If they were jerks, maybe not so much... Turn on some lights, and I can work until 9pm or so. But I probably only have about ten hours into all of those.

난 정말 당신의 일을 사랑 해요.돌은 매우 아름답습니다.
귀하의 이미지의 배경은 무엇인가?
I really love your work. Stones are very beautiful. What is the background of your image?

It was Chinese, not Korean. But Google will translate -
"To come to each other with a warm feeling filled with happiness today."
A nice sentiment.

Okay, boss. "I really love your work. Both are very beautiful. What is the background of your image" Thank you for the compliment, you have good tastes. What the hell was that other translation about??
Um, did you like my pink diamond plate? Actually, it is the clear "faceted " diamond cover from the fluorescent light fixture I replaced for my dad on Monday. Then I set it on top of an old (1950s) table that has drop sides, with a (faded) red formica top. Different, huh?
I get to stay and play tonight, whoo-hoo! For a few more hours, anyway..

I forgot that your bloodline is skilled at making stone balls up to 60 inches in diameter.
I should have known that you could whip out cabs in no time.
I think i have never worn a piece of jewelry in my entire life. You are an angel to offer. I was thinking a 25.6386 inch diameter sphere would be more within your bailiwick. Maybe 25.63862 actually. I am thinking an 18 hour project for ya.
If Scott did not ask, i was gonna ask about the background.
The #3 and #5 red cab has an interesting orifice looking solidification.
Well Done Jean

James, I don't think the 8" flat lap would be able to accommodate a sphere that large! Ah yes, the background. The light fixture I replaced has a bad ballast. I brought it home, will dismantle and throw parts away, all except the plastic cover, the bulbs and the pin holders. I think I can place the cover on different colored items and change its appearance. Should be very adaptable.
#3 and #5 - yes, that is an interesting little orifice on the surface! I plan on taking some photos of the 20 or so cabs I finished yesterday (many were re-works) as soon as it get a little lighter outside. Will try to get a decent close-up of it. Still too early to start grinding.
Thank you, James.

Thanks, Tom, Fran and Jim. Jim, you forgot to mention photography... And, yeah, I don't have the body parts that you are referring to.
