Came across a copy of an old VHS video tutorial on wire wrapping by Universal Wirecraft in Bradenton, FL. I think it was from the 1980s. I liked the different rings that they made (there are also tuts for pendants, various other things), so thought I'd try some myself. First, I made an assortment of small cabs yesterday. Here's the one I picked to wrap, a blue tigereye. I had my sister in mind when I wrapped it, and since she can't wear silver, I made it with 14K gold-filled. I was going to wrap the shank for additional strength, but found out I have no half-round GF. Oh well. It would hold the wires together on the shank. Not perfect, but not bad for a first go. Thanks for looking. Jean

In my eyes, that is as professional as can be. I love the stone selection with the gold. You can probably stop now as there is no room for improvement!

Hard to believe that's your first ring, it's outstanding. I really like the gold wire with the that stone, it accentuates the blue & gold very nicely.

Thanks for the vote of confidence, Grizman. But I guarantee the next one will be an improvement, now that I see how it all works together.
Thanks, Tommy. Been too long since I cabbed more than just one or two stones. Since I got new diamond toppers from Ameritool for my flat lap, I should be able to get some more cabs made, and then wrap them. Got a one-day event coming up in October I need to get stock made for.
Rich, it all just kind of happened that way. I chose that stone for my sister, since she had just bought an inexpensive pendant that was sold to her as "blue tiger-eye." It is actually blue fiber optic stone, a man made material. As previously mentioned, it had to be done in gold, so they worked well together. She is having hip repacement surgery today, I will give it to her when I see her on Monday.
Thanks, r2d! Will be working on number two tonight, making more cabs right now.

Hey Jean! I didn't know you were an old pro at wrapping That ring can be tough to pull off. Many have tried, many have failed. Pat on the back for you, girl.

Thanks, Tela! I'm trying to get some more ring-sized stones done so I can wrap some more. They are kind of fun. My sister loved the blue tiger eye in gold one. Going to move forward through the tape, and check out some of the variations they guy did on them. Until I find the ounce of half-round GF (or buy more - dang, gold is going up again!) that I had, guess I'll just be doing them in silver. Did you see the second one (turitella agate in silver) that I did? I put it on a different thread, I don't know why... Second ring

Yeah, I saw that one, too. I have only done a few of these rings and mine never looked all that great to me. Yours look really good.

I agree, it looks fantastic as is. The color of the metal and the stone go perfectly together.

I have only done a few of these rings and mine never looked all that great to me. Yours look really good. Thanks Tela and vegasjames! I can't believe how sturdy they are, I had been under the impression that they were fragile. (You should see the guy on the video dropping them from a height onto his work area to show they are strong!)) The tiger eye is wrapped in 14K gold-filled (yeah, the first one I did - kind ballsy, huh?) and the turitella is sterling silver.
