These were photographed in full sun so they look dull. I shaded this black coral to show the shine. The photos represent about 40% of the 15 pound load. The smaller ones do not fit in my fat fingers. ![](http://farm4.staticflickr.com/3802/9594997890_f4478d6ac4_b.jpg) ![](http://farm6.staticflickr.com/5456/9592267061_4965281316_b.jpg) Here is a flicker thumb set of 132 more! Does well in flicker slide show. www.flickr.com/photos/67205364@N06/sets/72157635229848361/

That black one looks great. If just a little wider, it could make for a good carving, the surface texture might just about work for a number of designs and the color is stunning.

Kurt, that is a whole coral. When i say it is whole that is how it was found. It is a small part of a large silicification. It survived because it is the hardest of the hardest. Never hit w/my hammer but collected as it is w/the limestone coating well tumbled off of it.I find those in wild shapes. The black comes from ancient muck it stayed in. I am setting selects aside for you.

Thanks Chuck. It took a lot of 30/60 to round them. The photos are in the sun so the shine is not apparent. They are close to lotto shiny though. I run other stuff in the mix and the coral is polished earlier and better. The close up photography helps a lot.
An old pro grade nikon D70 and a good Nikon zoom lens(not even a macro) is used at 12 inches away(greatly reducing blur from movement) assisted by stabilization and auto focus allows me to hand hold camera and rock and adjust the light angle quickly thru the lens and click em off at about 10 per minute. Then i crop the heck out of the photos. Those are some of the first i ever did in natural light.
Chuck, your photos are always great. Great used pro grade cameras are on ebay. That big SLR camera w/big lens does things my high end point and shoot cannot do. Same specs but photo quality is way different. I would have never bought it but it is a hand me down that i was forced to use and hated it's weight. Know i see what the big fancy lens lays down on the ccd and it is easy to take great photos. And a lot more forgiving.
Good cameras for bad photographers. Cheap cameras for highly skilled photographers. haha
I am sure the nikon D70 body is cheap on ebay. The 8 year old lens cost more than the body-my guess. It has a mickey mouse macro switch for macro that happens to do dang well. You may want to look this lens up some time- Nikon AF Nikkor 24-85mm 1:2.8-4 D.

James, I used a Nikon D70 for awhile but back when I got mine they did not shoot video very well and we hated carrying that big camera and having to take another camera for shooting video so we switched and got a good high end point and shoot that takes absolutely perfect HD video and we have really liked the photo quality too. Here's what I am using now store.sony.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?catalogId=10551&storeId=10151&langId=-1&productId=8198552921666534679I liked the D70 a lot for still photos around the house but I find we use the point and shoot more and get more pictures just because its easier to carry around with us.
