For those of you who have already seen this, new content added on page 3.
Speaking of reminiscing has me, well, reminiscing. I think this would be an interesting topic -
What smell or odor from your past has the most pleasant/memorable/wonderful memories for you?
For me, it is the smell of Sea-and-Ski suntan lotion. To this day, I can catch a whiff of that, at the beach, horse races, or wherever, and conjure up lots of nice memories of growing up here in San Diego. Pleasant thoughts.
Who's next?

I remember lots of scenes from a very young age, but I don't remember smelling anything until I was much older. This is probably a survival thing I also remember Sea and Ski, along with French fries as a young teenager. Hmmmmm..... Will have to give it further thought.

l'air du temps makes me think of a raven haired young lady. A lot. Her eyes a lusty chocolate color. Too bad girlfriend, you missed your chance.

What are you asking Scott for? It's my thread. Oh, what the hell, do whatever you want. As long as it's entertaining!

Hoppe's No. 9 gun-cleaning solvent. It brings back vivid memories of hunting and target-shooting with my Dad and our ritual of gun-cleaning that always followed. It smells nice, too.

S'mores, yummmmmm! Thanks for that, Pat.
Another smell I cannot get enough of is the smell of rain in the desert. But not a childhood memorey, as I didn't start going to the desert until about 1979.

Hands down my mom's baked pies. My mom used to do the dessert baking for huge farm crews in Oklahoma and Texas. Best dang pies Ive ever tasted with the flakiest crusts. Coconut cream and lemon meringue yum!. I can still remember the smell of them cooling on the counter.
The other is not so fine, my pop's taxidermy shop stink. Ah, the delightful odor of dead critters, hides in the pickle, and horns hanging form the rafters *L*......Mel

Smell is one of the strongest memory triggers that there is.
You can smell an odor, good or bad, and it can bring back long forgotten memories from decades ago.
I still remember the way the house smelled when we first moved in, in 1974. I also remember the smell of the ancient dust when we tore it down.

I love the smell of a ham being baked as you go traveling down the road on Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays. My Mam'ma always baked a ham. Seeing the ham was like "icing on the cake" !

I have to agree with Rockoonz, and for the same reason. Old Spice sure reminds me of my Dad, too. Vick's Vapor rub sure brings back memories of the treatment for chest congestion back in my childhood. The smell of chlorine in swimming pools, the pungent smell of seaweed on the coast of New England, all bring back lots of memories.

My neighborhood is very ethnically diverse - black, white, Asian, Hispanic... When its a big holiday like Thanksgiving or Christmas (or even Easter and Mother's Day) and it seems everyone has their families over, it so much smells like an international smorgasbord. So many different types of food smells, you'd think you died and went to olfactory heaven!

Smell of burgers frying on a cast iron skillet-reminds me of Granny VanDyke and her burgers cooking on the old cook stove(wood fired) with her cast iron pan!
A certain smell in the air during the fall months, right after the sun goes down on a calm day-reminds me of Boot Camp (Army) and the calmness it brought me realizing I was on my own,to write my own book on life!

Jergens Lotion: my grandma used it on her hands constantly, and that's the earliest olfactory memory I have. I remember putting my head in her lap during church service and going to sleep with that smell of Jergens .... OMG, that was close to 70 years ago!

Lots of the same as mentioned, but the smell of burning leaves in the fall is still one that will stay with me forever.
