Here's a chunk of BC I slabbed a couple months ago, only now getting around to posting pics. Been a crazy busy summer! takes on slightly different hues in full sun and shaded thanks for looking!

Thanks Mario! This particular piece I found at a local rock shop. It had been sitting outside in the sun for years I guess as there was no indication of purple on the exterior. Purple, as Mel has taught us here, is transient in most rocks and fades in sunlight. I had a good idea by what the 'skin' looked like, and after the first cut realized I picked up a bargain

That's a beautiful piece. So lacy. Do you have an uncut chunk, so we can see the outside? I've only seen it in slabs.

I had a good idea by what the 'skin' looked like, and after the first cut realized I picked up a bargain no picks, shovels, gads, feathers or other tools required. Save the gasoline, wear and tear on the vehicles and your body. That math all adds up to a smokin deal!! Nice Brian.

Thanks Scott, even a blind dog finds a bone now and then Pat, give me a couple daze and I'll clean up the end cut to show what it looked like.

Pat - I don't think Brian will mind. This is a photo of the BC chunk he gave me. You can see why he took this example home! Grape-cicle purple. Those are my sunglasses, prescription. Does that make them cheaters??

@shotgunner, thanks for the shot. Good stuff is not always obvious. Cheaters? More like helpers!

Pat the professional rockhounders like Brian take a small hammer and chip a piece off of many many stones to get a tiny glimpse of the insides. As seen in this image, good cutting materials will have a glassy sort of break and the inside color will be visible. I'll bet Brian or Tim will chip hundreds of stones to bring one good one home. I suck at rockhunding and have yet to find cool stuff like this.
This is an interesting concept. Maybe we should start a thread "show the outside of your rocks."

The more I see of what comes out of BC the more I think it might be worth the 4 hour drive.Any spots that have not been to picked over?

Here is what the end cut from these slabs looks like @shotgunner I really hope you get a nice sphere from that piece! I think grape-cicle suits it quite well newhound there's areas out there where the road is literally paved with agate. A little digging around will definitely reward you for the long drive.
