Yes he was. I have used the gambusia to strip meat off of bones. They are very efficient. It takes them a long time since they have negligible teeth.

I have spent many hours harvesting plants with them around me. They froth when you disturb the bottom and bring particulate matter into the water.

Those gambusia are thick as flies in my shallow ponds Scott. The Blue Herring kills all the bluegill and the bass So the gambusia have few enemies.
I think that is what attracts the lethocerous so heavily in those ponds.

In the book " The Orchid Thief " eating heron was mentioned. I know a few(2) backwoods guys that eat them and palm hearts and turtles and gator tail. I bet they are wild taste city.
And i have a neighbor here that used to eat hawks and said they were delicious. He had a pet hawk that could take on 2 hound dogs by getting handful of claws on each nose.
I hired a kid long ago that was good w/catching snakes. He said water snakes are easiest. He would tie a fish hook to a limb hanging into a creek w/a small fish for bait(similar to illegal alligator baiting with a chicken and shark hooks). He said next morning you will have a snake waiting on every set. The cattlemen do similar to coyotes around here.

this year I was reeling in a fish and a snake came out of the rocks and attacked the fish. Ive never seen that before. It was like 2 feet in front of me.

What do you expect if you catch 2 inch fish Brad?
They are pretty aggressive. That is over the top though.

This wasnt a 2 inch fish either. Pound or so bass. That snake latched onto the fish just as I was about to bring the fish out of the water. There wasnt no way this snake could of ate this fish. It was wild.

I have seen them swallowing frogs that were going to make them burst. That would have woken me in a hurry.
