Hello to everyone here!!! I'm 52 and started collecting when I was a wee lad of 6 or 7. My family home was between the little towns of Stony Point and Hiddenite, NC. After the garden was plowed, I waited for the first rain and would pick up little green emeralds. Since then, I've been all over the world and had many chances to collect.
Started faceting as a hobby at 11. My first faceted stone was a nice shiny pyrite. Over the last 41 years my collection of faceted stones have really grown. Eight years ago, I was diagnosed with an acute case of Crohn's Disease. My life really changed. No insurance, can't work, and finally spent out.
I started looking for some way to help my wife to pay the bills. So I've turned to my cut stones and rocks. I have been looking at different ways to market my stuff. I finally decided that I do not like what is referred to as little perky boxes for my purposes. So I have decided to try something else.
I was given a half a sheet of chemcast, so I went to work cutting little squares. To make my presentation more attractive I decided to incorporate tumbling. Actually looks really nice. Though I have encounter a few problems, I am for the most part satisfied. Now all I have to do is understand why some of the stuff I've tumbled has a film on it - in this case aventurine.
Here is a couple of pics of stuff I am happy with.
Red Jasper
Sodalite
Any advice is greatly appreciated. Hopefully I will be able to pay back with some of my own knowledge. Anyway, thanks Ken.
Also, if anyone here here has knowledge of a good webhosting site.
And maybe even how a clue on a good paypal shopping cart.
My wife works to pay the monthly bills, it is up to me to care of the medical expenses, so I am looking for the best and cheapest way to host a site.
