If it wasn't danged near in the quad cities, one of us would have paid more for it than you did. I was going to bid on it until I googled where it was. Little bit too far for me.

what are you going to cut? Everything! I have a bunch of rocks I gathered out of the piles at my in-laws farm, and there are some great piles along the sides of some old sand pits in my area. Every now and then I would cut them open with a dry masonry blade on my miter saw. I don't like doing it often though due to all the dust. Also, due to the heat, it fractures the rocks that ended up being nice inside. I've never been able to justify paying for a slab saw for just my curiosity, but when I saw the price this one started at, I figured I'd give it a shot. I really didn't think I would get it so cheap. Yep, I was banking on the fact that the seller was up in the middle of now where in Northern Iowa. It's 75 miles away.

That saw sold for $2k at one point in time. Hard to make any $ selling them for much less and hard to get sold for that much unless you figure out ways to make things go together easier and faster to justify the trouble.
It was royal blue in color and came standard with a galvanized hood which I found very attractive looking(being an ex sheetmetal worker lol) however gives a bad reputation. As you can see 20+ years later it's still intact.
I was a minute away from bidding on that saw, repainted, spruced up and put on a stand it would bring $1200 all day long. Too many other projects around here it would've just ended up on the pile so congrats.

Well, but some light mineral oil and get started. cut something with nice color and pattern and link a picture. we will all ooh and aah. Not picking it up until tomorrow, and then have to be at my in-laws house until Sunday night. Won't have a chance to do anything at all until next week I have a nice rock we picked out of a pile at the farm though, and it will be the first one I cut. I cut a few small pieces from it a while back with a masonry blade and tumbled them. I posted pictures here a while back of them, but I may have to dig it up. Anyways, my mother-in-law is moving off the farm, and we are going to cut a slab of that rock and make her something with it as a memory. I was a minute away from bidding on that saw, repainted, spruced up and put on a stand it would bring $1200 all day long. Too many other projects around here it would've just ended up on the pile so congrats. I am debating buying a small sand blaster for a different project. If I end up getting it, I will probably give this thing a new paint job. Might leave it as is though for the moment and cut slabs while it's still warm enough to be in the garage.

A brand new 10" Harbor Freight (cheap) brick saw will run about $200. You got something half again larger and made specifically for rock cutting so you got a steal.

If I didn't already have a 16" saw, I would have been bidding against you. Down and back from Northern S.D. is only a day trip.

LOL. My kids are in their 40's. Don't need to worry about buying toys. But every time I buy a new toy, my wife buys a new sewing machine, and those damned computerized sewing machines are expensive.
