Bill-I will help you any way that i can. i cooked some Montana and it changed very little as it is such a pure agate.
But i saw some wood and agates that were red yellow orange. They may get a color change.

Kurt has a special tumbler that tumbles figures into the rocks. Some you win, some you loose. Thank you guys, but far to much praise for something that is so much fun. And outcomes are far from guaranteed. Say James; are you wearing bollos? How big are they normally?

James, I think you've got it dialed in with the hotter temp. Can it get any better than that? Love the hourglass-shaped pieces.

Well Scott. it is a hobby that i love. And all that outback coral i know about is going to pay off in some color. It is a great step in my little arena/nirvana.
I am thinking your grandkids will be rockhounds too.
Definition of NIRVANA
1 : the final beatitude that transcends suffering, karma, and samsara and is sought especially in Buddhism through the extinction of desire and individual consciousness 2 a : a place or state of oblivion to care, pain, or external reality; also : bliss, heaven b : a goal hoped for but apparently unattainable : dream — nir·van·ic adjective

James We have a pizza place here called 600 because their oven is supposedly 600 degrees. Maybe we can get them to throw in some coral with the pies All kidding aside, those came out great. Way cool. Hope you find nirvana Bill

James, are the water levels holding for your next excursion? Seems you were chomping at the bit for that, too.

I don't see houzit you figure you owe me for the McDermitt, we think fair trade, like that coral a lot; and finally have it running. Got my necessary outside jobs done before the weather goes sour. I did do a little grind & polish on a few pieces, nice, nice, mtl. Larry

Larry- I will put some heated stuff on ya. That stuff changes for a few days ever so slightly. The purplish stuff is pretty serious purple now. If i can find the stuff that turned real purple with the other oven i may get 'super purple'.Ha.

When it comes to purple, be very careful. Test a small piece first. Purple comes from Potassium Ferrate and that compound decomposes to ferrous oxide. At what temp I do not know.
For a rockhounders clue, potassium ferrate only exists in alkaline areas. If the region is highly acidic, purple will not be present.

Alkaline and acid coexist. Water comes out of springs commonly at alkaline 8. The limestone bedrock is towards alkaline 8. The coral was created in the ocean which can be chemically neurotic and typically alkaline. The runoff can be down to acid 4.5. That is what dissolves the river channels 5-50 feet into the limestone bedrock. The clay is probably 6. ain't no tellin . Get a fair amount of purple tints. I am very curious about the purple.

yes, there is something very special about the purple. I'll bet the purple ones are found in veins of higher pH clays. Take test strip wit ya and see. jamesp definitely has some stones.
