Hi All, I bought this rock a couple of years ago, and just got around to slabbing it. Does anybody have any clues to its identity?

I would say it is Imperial jasper from Mexico rather than willow creek due to the parallel striation and color.

Don is correct, my bad. Had to go see what I wrote on the piece I have. Thanks, Don.

I've never been to Quartzite... how do I find out when the big rock shows are? All I really have been able to find is between January and the end of February.

Since I gave you bad information (again, thanks, Don, for correcting me!), let me see if I can help you out here. Jeff, most people (rock people, anyway) go the week of the PowWow, which will be January 22 -26, 2014 (Wednesday through Sunday). That's one of the big shows most people like to see/pick up lapidary rough/cabs/spheres/spend money at. However, there are lots of other shows - some rock related, some not - going on those months you mentioned. Desert Gardens is good for rocks (Where Mr Catmandewe has a booth with goodies), and Tyson Wells and Prospectors Panorama also have a lot of rock stuff. Here's a link to some info xpopress.com/QZ-show-schedule.html. Some of the members of this forum have gotten together, at least the last couple years that I am aware of, for rockhounding and a BBQ. A fun time! The BBQ was been held the Saturday of the PowWow in 2012. Last year, a thread was started early Here's a link to the planning stage (which started in October of 2012) for last years sojourn. forum.rocktumblinghobby.com/post/615977/threadHere's a link to the official BBQ thread forum.rocktumblinghobby.com/post/640789/threadHope that helps you out. Anytime the month of January is good. I go at least 5 or 6 times beginning the 2nd week in Jan. Most everything is open and set up by then. Pow Wow is good but there is so much more to see. The good prices begin towards the end of January when people begin to close up to head for Tucson. Most new finds are shown at Desert Gardens which opens the first week of January. Sheri
