Sheri is such a gem to have started this box. Her health situation makes it so I want to take over for this box. Sheri, get well, I have it from here. I thought I would start a fresh thread. Hi everybody; I just made three boxes. One for KK, Adrian and the USA members. The overseas boxes postage was paid by donations from friends here. jakesrocks, @wampidy, juzwuz, rockpickerforever. If I missed someone, tell me so I can dd you. Rocks in these three boxes came from jakesrocks, turnedstone, @wampidy, rockpickerforever, jamesp, The Dad_Ohs and me. RULES: please re-pack carefully. I used a medium box inside a large for more cushion. There is some nice stuff in there. Take something nice, put something nicer back. Let's turn this box into a gemstone treasure box. Shotgunner

I have a lot of stuff leftover. I can't use it. These folks meant it to be gifted. Let me re-gift on behalf of my friends. There is both 10" saw cuttable and slabs. Would anyone be will to tumble a batch for fossilman's sick veteran friend? If you tumble, I'll pay postage to you. If you want cuttable stuff, PM me and I'll make you a box, postage on you.

fossilman I am sending a box of material to Thunder69. He is going to tumble it for your sick friend. Please connect with John in order to get the rocks to the other Mike. I am thinking hard to to maximize the love from these boxes! HA! If you have ideas, please feel free to share.

Mike Menzie - please contact me in 24 hours. If I do not hear from you I will send the box to @christopher1234 and put your name farther down the list. Let's get this box moving!

Mike Menzie hasn't posted since March 2nd. You may want to bump him further down the line, and get this thing moving again. If he shows up in a reasonable amount of time fine. If he doesn't show up in say a month, remove him from the list. I check this thread every day. If others can't stay up to date on the box of goodies, then they aren't very interested.

Box off and on the way to Christopher. He should see it Tuesday. Pat and I chatted privately. It seems my concept of charity is contagious. She had an idea and I wish to take it and run with it. So, the following is part Pat's idea and part mine. I/we wish to challenge the group even further. Everyone who wants to join in, please do. The challenge is to take a finished cabochon; put it and $1 in the box. When it gets to 5 cabochons there should be $5 and whomever has the box at that time can send it to someone. My first thought is fossilman's sick friend. If the group decides to go with this or some other recipient, I will not oppose. So, whattaya think? One cabochon and $1 to make someone's day. Another option is to put together a group of say 5-10 cabochons and ebay them for charity. We have a lot of veterans here. So maybe a vietnam veterans charity. Please share with me your thoughts. If we do the ebay version we can make a big deal about RTH and the charity in the listing. Maybe get some traffic for both at the same time. Just a thought.

@shotgunner. The money is to pay for the postage. Is that right?
Would a nice slab or specimen be acceptable as well as a cab?
Thanks.

The postage is the killer with this. The postage for five people would be somewhere around $25. If five people send a dollar to one person, that person puts in five cabs. and sends it to someone. Then it could work around to everyone that will toss in five cabs. If we were not having to pay all that postage we could each throw in three or four bucks and spend the same amount of money.
I am not sure how we would come up with enough needy people that would appreciate five cabs. Maybe two or three pendants instead of five cabs. Just my 2 cents. Jim

@wampidy, when the box oomes to you, you put in a cab and $1, then send the box to the next person, they do the same. By the fifth person we have five cabs and $5. That person can then send the prize to the chosen recipient. Pendants works too. Pat, I see no reason a polished slab would not work. I was just thinking that the end result would go to someone outside the group, so finished pieces is what I was thinking. If we wanna keep it in the group then the traveling rock box is the solution in itself. If it does not work, that is fine. I was kind of thinking out loud!

Scott, sounds fine to me. I am not in your list of traveling rock boxers.

So what is the plan then add a buck and a cab? Also do we continue with the before and after photos is that how it works?

Scott,
This is all new to me but I'll be glad to join in. I already got a PM from Christopher telling me that I'm next. I just need to know what I'm supposed to do with the box when I receive it. I only do rough and slabs, no cabs so is that ok? I'm a little confused with what I'm supposed to do!

Don't worry about it Denny. The way we used to work it, and hope we still are is, when you take things out of the box to keep, you put a like amount of your material back in the box. No requirement that it be finished cabs or jewelry. We would like it if you post pics of what you take out of the box, and what you put back in.
The box with the cab and dollar is a whole new and separate thing. I haven't done any cabbing in over a year. I'll have to see if I have any finished cabs left, before I commit to that one. Old age is great. Hands are getting too stiff to cut cabs more than a few minutes at a time. I do have some 30 X 40 MM cabs that are preformed, but not domed or polished, if they would be acceptable.

Sheltie, take a few of stuff you like, add a few back of stuff you like. We are hoping the quality of the box gets better was it moves thru the various folks. Take pics of what you remove and also what you put in. Then send it on to the next in the line.
You can skip the cabochon for friends program. I think that got too complicated. I'll start a new thread elsewhere for that.

if you want to do the cabochon thing.... just a suggestion.... you can get 1 person to do a Facebook account for RTH, and then join a group that has auctions of lapidary materials and or minerals, I have a friend Ezra that hosts auctions all the time, its free!!, and we can sell there or we can sell on Ebay through anyone's account, or setup a RTH account there, and do the listings.
I have dealt with both as have others here I'm sure, and would be willing to share what info I can with anyone willing to take it on.
Just my 2 ducats!!
