Awesome reports and pics guys! Really brings back those memories and looks lie you had a great trip. Was there any plume left in back of the fluorite mine site? I've never seen that green rock before. Really looks like it has possibilities and kind of reminds me of the Verde Antique marble......Mel

Awesome report Jean. My back hurts just looking at all those beautiful rocks you picked up. Thank you so much for taking the time to show the fun times.
I do not want to jump thread so I posted the name of the hand cream on the shout box. Jim

I've never seen that green rock before. Really looks like it has possibilities and kind of reminds me of the Verde Antique marble......Mel The jasper outcrop that produced the plume has been reduced to a HUUUGE tailings pile. It's starting to fill in the canyon at the bottom. Yes, you can get some yellow plume but it isn't as pure as when you were there. Now there's red and black in it. Not bad, just different. Tom & Bob had a good time breaking a couple of big hunks off the outcrop and we all came home with a bunch. I have 100# and bob and Tom as much I am sure. I'll post pics of my take tonight or tomorrow.

A word to the wise - DO NOT place anything on top of a tire on your vehicle, not even for just a second! Especially a GPS unit... As we pulled out of camp Sunday morning, I looked on the dash for it, and it wasn't there. Walked back into camp to look for it. Tommy said, I know what you're looking for! David had found it on the ground. I'm pretty sure we ran over it, but it still works. Just got a couple good scratches on the front of it.

I had a phone on my lap once and did not notice it fall out when I got out. Missed it when I walked back to the pickup and when I backed out I ran over it. It did not fair as well as your GPS. BTW Awesome T-shirt. I think the best I have ever seen with a message. Jim

I thought I was the only one who does things like that. I set a brand new $300 Canon on the roof of the Jeep because I had to get Goober some water. My dad bought it for me because we were having lots of close encounters with coyotes near our house and dad bought it because it was one of those mini mega zoom models. We called it my "Coyote Camera." Lost it at Castle Butte, near Edwards AFB. We drove all the way to Barstow and got a motel because we were doing all the eastern sites the next day. Noticed my camera was gone and remembered leaving it on the roof. We actually went back the next day and slowly drove on all 4 wheel roads we were on. I was upset because I purposely was taking lots of pics for our computer desk top. Had some good ones. Oh well.

You like that shirt, Jim? I wore it once to a rock club meeting, and not a single person commented on it, lol! Maybe they didn't really want to stare and get a good look? I've had it for several years, was too small for me until recently ![:)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/smiley.png) .

No, you're not alone. Sorry to hear about your camera, Larry. You'd never have lost it if it didn't have a bunch of photos already in it. That's just how those things work. Losing those photos was probably as painful as losing the camera.
Funny thing is, until this weekend, I never put things on top of a tire. I even sat my mug of coffee there at one point... Must be because we didn't have our trailer, and the six foot table we always have set up.

The green rock quarry was a Brubaker-Mann quarry. Mann gave the Searchers directions and permission to collect years ago. He called it either "Mohave Jade" or "Desert Jade". It was abandoned by them because it was too hard to grind up for landscape gravel (they specialize in colored gravel). It grinds fairly soft like marble and polishes easily. The colors run to darker greens than Verde Antique generally.

I looked up Brubaker-Mann quarry on Mindat. The location they give is in Barstow, I suppose that could be the processing area? The green rock quarry is 35 miles as the crow flies to the northeast of there.
Brubaker-Mann Quarry, Barstow, San Bernardino Co., California, USA Commodities (Major) - Stone - Crushed/Broken Development Status: Past Producer
Did not give any mineral info.

Thanks, Bill. But I think Tommy and Eva scored the best and most stuff! We'll see how solid this stuff is when I start cabbing it.
Was going to go out this morning and wash some of the rocks off and take some more pics, but it's cold - 65 degrees (by SoCal standards, lol!) and there's no sun for good pics anyway. Supposed to rain in the next few days, maybe I'll just set the rocks out in the grass for a free wash.
It was funny, when in the Cadys, I wore a tank top and shorts all day long, even after dark. When evening came, everyone else was bundled up with tundra coats on, like they were freezing. Only David had an excuse - no meat on his bones! (This was before I put antifreeze into myself, I put some warmer clothes on before starting that.)
Yet on the drive home, by the time we reached Rancho California/Murietta, we both got cold. I'm thinking it must've been the more humid air, making it feel colder. The drier desert air it didn't feel so cold.

Long ago I lost a camera on a hike - left it on a rock I guess. Put an ad in the local lost and found. Got a call one evening from a guy saying he found the camera, that we had nice horses and good kids. He obviously developed the film. He gave us a bogus name and phone number. Creep!!! I hope Karma or whatever T-boned him. (This was before caller ID, etc.)
From hearing so many sad stories, I make it a point to NEVER put anything on the roof of my vehicle. Everything either inside or on the hood right in front of the driver's vision. Has saved me a few times.
Can't wait for more pic's Jean. Don't get frostbite though on my account!

that remains to be seen I think. Except for the lavic jasper everything I brought home seems extremely pitted and matrix ridden. Haven't fired the feed saw up yet though.

Jean, yes Brubaker-Mann is in Barstow. If you drive the 15 you will see a big gravel logo on the hill above their plant. It doesn't seem as well maintained as years ago. They mined colored rock all over the Calicoes and elsewhere around the desert.
