UPDATE!
I am meeting Lowell tomorrow bright eyed and bushy tongued for a day of adventure. I'll then decide on a campsite and make a list of coords for hunters to use in the field.
I smell a trip report!

jakesrocks - Lowell & I both watered some creosote on your behalf. rockpickerforever - awesome trip I was deer in the headlights. I was so lost sometimes... Now that I have looked at google earth I know what's up. Due to the distance from the highway to the hounding, I think I will call friday night's camp on a mesa by the highway. If windy there should be protection there and if folks like Jean come in very late we'll be easily found. The road conditions are excellent. Easy 4WD access to all areas. Trip report coming in another thread. I'll post here more about directions and give images from google earth for camping and more.

Camp here: Exit I-15 at Basin Rd go south past the very first hill (a few hundred yards) turn left and we'll all gather there Friday night. Up for breakfast and when we're all ready we can head in to the flourite mine first.

Well, I am seriously envious of all people heading out on this trip. My day with Scott was an enjoyable romp across the hills of the North Cady's.
I'll write up my side of things later (with photos of my stuff), but I'll let Scott begin the story.
Couldn't show all places in one day - too big - but hit all the basic sites and showed Scott the benefits of roaming past the end of roads. Even found an agate site I'd never come across before and hauled out my largest agate - unfortunately shattered but the size and color was completely unexpected.
I do have a suggestion though:
Everyone going should list what they are hoping to find. Scott is zeroed in on larger pieces for his sphere-making, but his taste in rocks doesn't match mine (which is excellent cause then you're not fighting over the same rocks!) By listing interests, he might be able to now map out a general plan for Saturday and Sunday. I can also then pipe in with additional details if needed.
Really want to go!
Lowell

We have a new member of the "trip committee" Cartographer - someone to put the plan to maps - pre-trip at least. LarryS is doing this for us. We need to find him some nice stuff.

I really appreciate all the help you've provided Lowell, and wish you could join us. It would have been a pleasure to meet you. My personal desire is to be selective and look for small plume agates (1" to 3") that I can cut - I have a 10" Lortone autofeed and a new 10" gravity fed/push-through. I've been known to sift for smalls for long periods of time looking for quality pieces that I can cut and cab even if I know I'll only get a small slice or two out of them. I don't see this trip being any different - but that's not to say that when we find larger boulders I won't be thrilled to hide them from Scott and haul them home to my ever-growing "I'll cut these someday when I get a larger saw" pile. :-) Thanks again.

If the wife was not going in for an operation, I would be joining this trip. In all of our Cady trips we have yet to do the north side. Hopefully this will do a repeat next year. Woody If she is healed enough, we will get down to Q this year, but even that is an if right now.

Hello everybody! LarryS is a flipping genius! He has made the maps. Two formats. One on topo and the other on satellite imagery. If you are planning on going on this trip, please send me an email. My addy is in my profile. I will make a package of his images and send them to our fellow trip-mates. Everybody, we gotta find a nice treat for goober. Larry did us proud!
