Looks great. That is a pretty chysocolla. Like the black inclusions.

That's a wicked knife barclay, even more so for a first one. Good job! Is that the same chrysocolla you gave me at the meeting? (ideas forming in noggin'). Looking forward to the Jamulfest in three weeks. I have GOT to quit dragging my feet, and get more cabs wrapped. (I am such a procrastinator...) I'll see you at the October meeting before Jamulfest. I'm picking up something from Bob L.

What did you use to stabilize the stone, if you don't mind me asking.

Rockpicker, this is the same stone I gave you a slab from. I went back and picked up another stone so I have two big and two small stones to cut up.
Tammy, happy to share. I used Starbond EM02 super fast thin to start. The chrysocolla soaked that up like water. I may have sanded through all that while grinding the handles. Once I had shaped the handles I used Starbond EM40 medium thin to make the shiny top coat. While I was on vacation I visited a rock shop in Tuscon and they said they used Starbond to stabilize all of their Sonora Sunrise and other soft slabs and that they liked it so much they were looking in to being a distributer for Starbond. Starbond likes to sell wholesale quantities of this stuff so I bought mine through Amazon. The activator is just pure acetone so you probably don't need to buy Starbond's handy pump bottle. As I recall the 2 oz bottles of Starbond were about $7 each. 2 oz does not sound like much but unless you are a production shop it will go a long way. Starbond is like super glue on steroids. The fumes will burn your eyes so good air flow is necessary.
