I have never been this nervous about rocks in the tumbler before but I just tossed in 14 crosses and 34 cabochons so I am on pins and needles with this batch. I weighed them and the cabs are 1 pound 4 oz so the rest of the lot-o is filled with mixed ceramic so should be plenty of cushion. The cabochons are 100 percent done on the front but I thought this would speed up getting the backs shined and remove any pesky scratches that might be on the fronts. I only did hard materials like jaspers and agates figuring that would be safe. Here's whats going in And here's the backs that need cleaned up Chuck

Ok here's my plan. Because the crosses are rough cut with sharp corners I am going to run them without the cabs for 24 hours in 120 then I will do a full clean out and reload with just the crosses in fresh 120 but this time after 10-12 hrs I will toss in the cabs. I don't want to change the cabs a whole lot just clean them up so maybe the 120 will have worn down a bit in that first 12 hrs. After that I will keep them all together for 2 days in 500, 2 days 1000, 3 days polish then burnish.

Chuck I been messing with my.loto with Bikerrandys tumble pendants and also cabs that are just worked on the 100 and 200 hard wheels and also finished cabs just to get the loto shine on em. My results are best with half mixed size ceramics and one quarter cabs and one quarter miscellaneous tumbles. Othrrwise they tend to chip, fracture and get out of shape.

I put super delicate stuff in a rotary full of 1/4 - 1/2 inch stuff at slow speed and would not worry at all. Vibratory's are great but i always worry about them getting dry or the cap coming loose.
But you tumbled a huge rock w/cabs recently. Very impressive. Good luck Chuck

Good luck, Chuck! I'd be nervous too. There's a lot of work in that batch.

I am with Bill! You don't need luck (but I am sending it anyway:)) that is a great bunch of cabs and I am realy interested in the outcome. I am doing cabs to try the very same thing! My very first batch went in the vibe on polish this morning Never had much luck with the rotory I would love to do a couple hundred cabs at one time and get a polish like I can on 6 wheels on the cab king (plus tin oxide, or 8k 14k and 50 k diamond). I am very interested in this. You don't need luck Chuck you have the skill, but super good luck anyway

Chuck, I just looked again at the superb finished tumbles in the competition you won. I have full confidence you will achieve all you hope for in the final results on these crosses and cabs. I look forward to seeing the finished results.
